Just about to post the same message:

I got a follow up email this morning telling me that I don't need to get interviewed. They have even cancelled my pre-booked interviews in mid-June. Thankfully my WS flight from LAX to YVR is PLUS, but the return is on Delta... so out $200CAD... but I save a day and a night of accommodation. Not bad!

Renewal does not need walk-in interviews, if your information has not been changed.

That I understand. If I'm reading sullim4's situation accurately, member was never NEXUS to begin with. CBSA is fully approving without an in-person interview.

Confirmed in this thread:
Got Nexus approval email before interview ...

Thank you for your continued interest in CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs. After additional review, it has been determined that your application could be approved without an additional in person enrollment interview. If you had a scheduled appointment, it will be cancelled on your behalf with the approval of your application. If you receive a membership card in the mail, you can activate the card through your GOES account. No further action is required.

This is an automated email. Please do not reply.

Fully approving existing GE members without an interview. People that have already been deemed trusted travelers by the CBP.

Approving existing Global Entry members for NEXUS without an in person interview makes a lot of sense. It will cut down huge back log of NEXUS application. Individual information is in GOES, which is the same system for both Global Entry and NEXUS.

Thank you for sharing. That is good to know.

When you entered US with Global Entry and NEXUS into Canada, was your old passport still valid?

My old passport had not expired. But I was actively using my new one for 5 months

Reported card lost at 2pm this afternoon via GOES online system and paid the $25 fee.

Received status change at 2:50pm - logged into GOES and my lost card replacement was approved instantly. ^

Pleasant surprise considering it seems all anecdotes I've read about reporting a lost card required more lead time and an interview at an enrolment centre.

When this happened to me 5 years ago it was a 6 week wait + appointment

If the policy holds, then I don't see any reason why a GE member up for renewal wouldn't get a NEXUS membership. It is $50 less, comes with more privileges, and no longer requires a potentially long trip to get to a NEXUS interview center.

I would also hope that this means that they are going to cut down on the interviews they do for NEXUS renewals, which seemed pointless other than to take an up-to-date picture.

Of course, they could just change their policy overnight, and start requiring interviews again... so who knows.

I do not know the official policy of approving existing Global Entry member for NEXUS without an in person interview. I intend to keep my NEXUS instead of my Global Entry. One FTer from Florida has NEXUS instead of GE.

Carfield reported NEXUS renewal without an in person interview.

update H-1B before travel

Hi,
I am a Canadian citizen with NEXUS.
I just got an H-1B to start June 6, with plans to travel to the US June 3.
Is it possible to update my NEXUS profile with the H-1B before this travel (e.g. last week of May)?
Thanks.

I don't believe you can update that online, but you can just walk into the NEXUS office and show them your paperwork. It won't require an appointment, and I've never waited more than 5 minutes at YYZ to update paperwork.

I assume CBSA is still doing their own background checks; an American citizen or permanent resident with a DUI and/or a few other crimes in the U.S. that CBP might well let slide might not be eligible for admission to Canada and thus be denied NEXUS.

But in the general case choosing NEXUS over GE is a no-brainer if the border interview is being waived.

Just got a new passport today.
Not wanting to forget to do it before I travel next (and in case I cross before the office opens in the morning and can't update in passing), I come straight back to my office and login to GOES.
"Passport issuance date must be at least one day before current date" or words to that effect. You cannot update GOES until the day after your passport is issued. Great!

I've always recalled reading that passport updates needed to be done at the office for the Canadian side, but I just noticed the following link:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexu...nnees-eng.html

Can anyone confirm that this is correct and that a visit is no longer required.

I can't confirm it through direct experience, but given the link is to a CBSA site, I don't know why they would be wrong about it.

Good news for those needing many types of updates.
