Hi Mesabadad (nice name, btw):
We plan to go to International Falls for our interview as well and when researching happened on the link below. I called the number "For iris photograph information, please call 807-274-3655" indicated in the link below. The number is for the Canadian Border Services agency in St. Francis. A nice lady answered and said, "yes, once your interview is done on the US side, come on over to Canada and we'll do the iris scan, no appointment necessary". Hope this helps. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexus/location-eng.html Another question for the group: Do you need the ORIGINAL pre-approval letter? The online copy I printed says you do but the appointment info sheet I printed after making my interview reservation say to bring a COPY of the letter. I checked my mail today before leaving for my Monday interview but no letter yet. So I will not have the original. (My daughter was formerly a FA for Mesaba Airlines). |
Can someone please share their Nexus renewal interview experience after getting the conditional approval.
Do we need to get a new Iris scan or they can use the existing one? I am thinking of driving to Detroit Enrolment Centre but they don't do Iris scan there and i am not interested to cross the border and do the Iris scan at Windsor airport. Thanks! |

I've used my Nexus for air travel a few times but have never had to declare anything at a land crossing. Next month I'll be picking up a new bicycle frame in the US and bringing it to Canada. I'll be driving down for just that reason so a quick turnaround in the US. Do I fill out a TDC for it beforehand or can I give a verbal at the booth? I'll be crossing in Sarnia.

I hold a Global Entry membership and given my enjoyment for occasional travel to Canada I applied for NEXUS. I received my conditional-approval and just had my interview in Vancouver. I was a little surprised when the agent told me that my Global Entry *card* would become INVALID and be replaced with my NEXUS card. The agent explained that the NEXUS card will have the same identification # (KTN), but while I was free to retain my Global Entry card, the Global Entry card itself would become invalidated. Does this mirror other's understanding here? On a tangential note, I had read that Australia has a trusted program with some form of reciprocal agreement with the US such that one could use their Global Entry entering there. If so, will my NEXUS card be accepted equally? Or, did I unwittingly lose some value of my original Global Entry status? And, yes, I did inquire this of the agent, but she was unsure as she did not know about the Australian program.

Global Entry benefits are included with your NEXUS membership.

I have Nexus and used Australia smartgate program. Not sure if it has anything to do with Nexus/GE or if it just applies to citizens of particular countries that have a electronic smart passport.

You don't need to be enrolled in any CBP Trusted Traveler program to use Australia's SmartGate. |

If you are GE and applied/approved for NEXUS, you will get a new card. As KPOM mentioned, all US passports (along with a dozen other countries' passports) with the biometric chip can use Australia's SmartGate .

On that note, New Zealand still has dedicated lanes for Global Entry members. I called them to inquire if they will accept someone with a Nexus card but they were unable to answer this. Anyone with first hand experience here?
