I think you mean that she couldn't have cared less. :D (Sorry, pet peeve.)

I'm referring to the machine located in the segregated area for connecting passengers.

Have never had occasion to use that particular machine, but the main bank of Nexus machines in T1 are down all too often as well.

That has to be some kind of ironic statement. I'm just not sure what it is.

I was at the Blaine NEXUS office yesterday. I went for my NEXUS interview. My wife came along as she needed to update her driver's license details for her NEXUS account.

While there we also asked for my wife's 10-fingers be fingerprintered for Global Entry. When you access her GOES account it indicates you will be able to use Global Entry once you have all 10-fingers fingerprinted and please make an appointment at any Trust Traveler Centre.

The person at Blaine said we always fingerprint 10 fingers and would not do anymore. I indicated to him in 2007, when my wife's card was issued, she cannot remember if all 10-digits were fingerprinted. He went into her profile and said that she is not approved for Global Entry and that she needs to submit an application for Global Entry. I did not say anything more.

When I got home I accessed my GOES account and it indicates my approval for NEXUS was granted (letter form) plus on the bottom it indicates I can now use. Since I had all 10-digits fingerprinted yesterday there is no mention of having the need to fingerprint.

I wanted to ask if anyone has any luck in getting a NEXUS office to do the additional fingerprinting?

Another side of me, wants to take what he CBP officer said, in that, they always do 10-digit fingerprints and have my wife use Global Entry.

I am planning to call the GOES support centre to see if they can offer any guidance.

Cheers

Global Entry

Just came into YYZ from Narita via IAD. Decided to see if the Global Entry kiosks would work for me in IAD since I got the notice in GOES. Went up to them and was through in 45 seconds. Saved me an hour in the US immigration line. Then used Nexus in YYZ and saved another 45 mins. I can see liking the access to Global Entry.

Did my Nexus interviews today at Whirlpool Bridge office - took all fingerprints but no specific mention of Global Entry in either the US or Canadian officers' outlines. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly everyone was - seemed a contrast to the often officious approach when entering either US or Canada.

My only disappointment is having to wait for the card - the letter to arrange the interview (sent from VT) took a couple of weeks to reach me.

I even had time to play tourist at the Falls and just missed the snow by the time I got home.

Is it this message at the bottom of the page? Or something different?

"* As a NEXUS member, you can now use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable passport. Do not use your NEXUS card in the kiosk, but you may wish to carry it with you. There is no additional cost to use Global Entry, and you may use it for the duration of your NEXUS membership. Additional information about Global Entry can be found at http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. If you do not wish to use Global Entry kiosks, please disregard this message."

Unfortunately the Nexus office is rarely open when I'm at YYZ (6 am, 10 pm or weekends) so I probably need to make an extra trip.

How long should it take for the NEXUS card to arrive?

They said 7 to 10 days, but if that is how long they take to send it, then it could take at least another week to actually arrive. I have two trips before that time frame.

I might be confusing this with the conditional approval letter, but if they come in the same envelopes that they did when I got my card three years ago, they look a lot like junk mail. You really have to look out for them.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

That's true. The card packaging is very generic, with no obvious markings.

My wife got a good scolding...

I'm posting this story for FT'ers to review (as well as for their amusement) and please feel free to comment.

As a result of reading some posts that suggested a personal visit should follow a passport renewal, I suggested to my wife that she drop into the Nexus office. This despite the statement on their website addressing this issue:

Can I update my passport/lawful permanent resident card information in GOES?

Yes, you can update any passport or U.S. lawful permanent resident card that is in GOES. If the document information is not already in GOES, you must go to a trusted traveler enrollment center to add that information.

And this appears elsewhere on the site:

Passport and/or Permanent Resident expiration dates can be updated using your GOES account. For all other documents, you will need to contact the Enrollment Center and present a current travel document.

As this was a renewed passport, I thought she would be fine but we wanted to avoid any potential delays on our next trip.

She has not used the Nexus pass recently because her travelling companions need to go through normal channels, and she prefers to remain with them.

When she was called for the interview, she was shocked to find out she is in "serious violation" of the rules- in fact she has three black marks on her record:

Strike #1: She tried to use her Nexus card with an expired passport on file. Although she had a current passport, it was not updated on the Nexus system. (Guilty as charged.)

Strike #2: She attempted to bring her daughter through the Nexus system, and her daughter is not registered. (Not really guilty- the person directing passengers through the customs/immigration area suggested that she could clear herself and her daughter through the "crew line". We both seem to recall that procedure was ok'd during the initial interview and "training" meeting.)

Strike #3: She failed to update the file in person (with the renewed passport) in a timely manner. 2 weeks was given as the time limit...can't find that one anywhere on the website. In fact, as noted above, updating on the website is sufficient! (Not guilty!!)

She was informed that her case will be reviewed by a supervisor, and she can expect to have her card revoked in 2014 when it expires.

A little heavy handed? I think so. We both understand and appreciate the gravity of proper documentation and process when crossing the border, but these "violations" were certainly administrative and in no way were done with malicious intent to circumvent the rules.

We'll see what happens the next time she uses the card, but we will allow extra time for secondary inspection, and possible time in the penalty box!

It does sound like no one knows the rules. I posted earlier in this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/15416728-post2207.html that I called YUL Nexus office and left a message, they called me back and told me that for a Canadian passport renewal, I needed to do nothing more than the GOES update, as stated on the CBSA website.
