But I agree, in practice, it really does not matter for us.

For some it will. At YXU we don't preclear US customs and get lumped into the international arrivals at ORD on the YXU-ORD UA flights. Also, those transferring from third countries via US will benefit. Just a few weeks ago landing in IAH from BOG I was eyeing those GE kiosks enviously!:D

I think ssconfig meant that being members of GE vs. being Nexus members who can use GE kiosk's doesn't really make a difference.

They do know, those clever kiosks. The blue customs declaration that you do not have to fill out on paper is recreated on the GE kiosk screen. It is pre-filled in with your passport information, airline and flight number and your departure city.

This is the message I get this morning on my GOES personnal page

As a NEXUS member, you can now use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable passport. Do not use your NEXUS card in the kiosk, but you may wish to carry it with you. There is no additional cost to use Global Entry, and you may use it for the duration of your NEXUS membership. Additional information about Global Entry can be found at http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. If you do not wish to use Global Entry kiosks, please disregard this message.

So I think it is quite clear.

Very good new, passing immigration in a US Airport is a pain. I was no longer connecting thru the US for Intl flights because of this. So it could lead to new possibilities.

Does this mean that as a Canadian Nexus member, we can now use the Global Entry machines when we enter the US from a third country, without doing anything further (ie get the GE sticker from a CBP office)?

I am still not convinced about this. The notice said that NEXUS members can use GE kiosks. It does not say that there is any change to NEXUS benefits. Currently, NEXUS only allows members to enter the US from Canada. Entering the US from a third country would be an expansion of benefits, which I do not see mentioned anywhere.

(On the other hand, current program benefits allow NEXUS members to use NEXUS or CANPASS kiosks to enter Canada from any country).

I just went to the LAX global entry office, and they were telling me to enroll in Global Entry online before I can have my fingerprints taken. I am a Canadian NEXUS member from 2007, so I only have my thumb and index prints on file.

Guess I'll try again once they are better informed, or try the Nexus enrollment office when I'm near one again.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I went to the NEXUS office at YYZ today and the Canadian officer I spoke with looked at me like I had two heads.

I had a printout of my GOES status page and the CBP press release, but she was of the opinion that it applied to Americans only. I didn't push the matter.

Will inquire again at the Rainbow Bridge...

Spoke with an officer at the YEG NEXUS Office today. They at least were aware of the fact that Global Entry had been extended to Nexus members. When I asked about fingerprinting and stickers, his answer was that no specific information had been shared with them yet as to whether they would be doing that or how. So I guess I'll just stay tuned.

But nexus takes all 10 prints of everyone now - it's the us side, and pretty certain since those who already had it done already can use it without them doing anything additional.

When I called nexus at yyz when I was back just before Xmas, they told me to just come in, no appointment needed, and they would have the US guys do the prints. Unfortunately, wasn't able to do so, but I'll see if the GE office at SFO will do it when I'm there later in Jan.

When did they start doing that? I don't recall doing any fingerprints when I got my Nexus, a little over two years ago.

No, the notice says:

All NEXUS members will also be able to enjoy the benefits of Global Entry at no additional cost through using the automated kiosks for entry at participating airports. NEXUS members will need to check their status in their GOES account as they may need to submit their 10-fingerprints or any other necessary documentation in order to receive Global Entry benefits.
I'm not sure what Global Entry benefits can possibly be construed to read other than "the benefits of the Global Entry program."

I went for my Nexus interview earlier this month and they took all 10 fingerprints of mine. So I think they must have changed their procedures.

We gave ten prints - our NEXUS interview was at the end of May, 2010 at Fort Erie, ON.

Wish I would have popped into FT over the past few weeks and read this news, it would have saved me over an hour at IAD the other day coming from LHR. Oh well, good news anyways.
