Any idea how long renewals are taking these days? Submitted my renewal via GOES Dec 7 and have been in the "Pending Review" state ever since.

I have a few trips coming up and am dreading having to stand in an actual line!

I submitted mine end December and am also Pending Review.

Seems strange renewals take longer than initial applications.

Mrs Mapleg applied mid Dec, got conditional approval yesterday. Earliest interview at YYZ was set for mid April--but checking today she managed to get an interview in 2 weeks due to a cancellation (and on a weekend even, which is convenient for her). Glad she does not have to wait 3 months.

Can you continue to use your old card while your renewal is in process?

Yes. You can even use your old card after renewal is complete (online + meeting) until your new card arrives.

My recent experience...

Applied online through GOES - 4 business days to approve.

Booking Interview - was lucky...got interview in YYC 3 days after approval notice received (YYC waits are about 6-8 weeks).

Card Received about 10 days after interview (was told it could take up to 6 weeks to arrive).

Total time - about 3 weeks.

I applied online almost a month ago... still pending review.:(

Must perform study/survey to figure out if times of year or nationality (US vs. Canadian) factors in the approval process as crazy to range from 4 days (if not prior GE) vs. 6 weeks.

Happy to report that I made it to "Conditional Approval" status today and have an interview for Feb 10.

Question

I was told by CSB that if you are sent to secondary as a nexus holder you get to go to the 'front of the line' (because you are nexus)

Has anyone tried this? Any luck?

There was no line when I was sent to secondary last year at YYZ by DHS (not CSB); I don't know if that was because I was Nexus or not. When I showed my card they said go over and see that agent, so I did. He said please open your bag, typed a couple things in the computer, and said thank you.

Added about 2 minutes.

Not sure if CSB would be different?

Just curious, are you talking about when entering the US (pre-clearance) or when coming into Canada.

For the record, going to the US, I have been in secondary a few times (sometimes, as a result of a declaration, and a couple of randoms as well. Even when primary customs was busy, I've always been in and out in five minutes or less (ranging from a look at my card and a quick question to a fairly light bag search), and never had to wait in line. Once you get in secondary (entering US), and get to the main desk, they direct you to where you need to go - I've never chalked up my no wait to Nexus, but I suppose its possible.

If there is a line and you have no chance of talking to someone until your turn comes up, you wait.

There was no one in queue when I was sent to secondary, so yes... You get to the front of the line. ;)

I was told either direction. I had trouble believing that they would let you pass people in line so thats why I asked the question here.

So 46 days for your renewal. I checked yesterday myself and was still pending. Note on the screen tells you to call them if you haven't heard from them in 8 weeks. So good advice would be to renew early and not wait to one or even two months before one's renewal date.
