For land, Nexus alone is ok. Technically, I think it says something about the Nexus card being WHTI-compliant when entering using a kiosk - problem is that once you hit secondary (either by answering yes, or randomly), or if the machines are down - you are beyond the kiosk. If you didn't have your passport, my guess is you: - wouldn't have a Nexus card by the end of the conversation with the officer - would be denied entry since you don't have proper documentation - when you did travel back to the US, would have many more secondary inspections ahead of you |

Has anyone signed up for the new US airport fast security PASS program as detailed here?
http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/participation.shtm Trying to get my GOES login details from my wife (master of the passwords) so I can poke around, but would be interested if others have already enrolled or whatever. (I have Nexus) (This is a new US airport program being rolled that provides for faster screeing lines) |

TSA Pre is only open to US Nexus holders during the current trial phase.
However, part of the recent border security agreement was that all Nexus holders will be eligible the program once it is rolled out nationally. |

Was it always like this or did they recently start? YYZ still lets you go straight through. Just wondering if this protocol is driven by the airport or if they're planning on slowing down the Nexus lines across the board.
So, who do you believe? I don't mind living by the rules but when the rules are in a constant state of flux depending on the moods it gets quite frustrating. As much as i hate traveling through YYZ, I find their approach to Nexus quite standard. |
What's supposed to come out of the GE machine?
Used GE for the first time at YYZ T1 on Friday as there was a line for the only working NEXUS machine. I fumbled around a bit, thought I did everything right, and eventually the machine printed out a little card, which I handed to the agent.
But he didn't like the card for some reason. "Where's the other one?" "What other one?" "Go back to the machine and see if there's something else there." Well, there wasn't. Just printed the one thing. About 3" x 4". I wound having to get in line, and the agent was puzzled by this card - apparently it normally looks different. He kept it and said he was going to show it to his supervisor. So - I'm still new at GE - what is it you are supposed to get? How big is the output? I wonder if the thing was out of paper and it only printed me half of what it was supposed to. |

My guess is that perhaps the officer you handed the GE receipt to wasn't trained on how GE works and was looking for the standard NEXUS receipt instead.

News to me. I got NEXUS/GE in November and have used it twice since then. Both times (YUL and IAD), I've gotten a single card.

I hold a non-us non-canada passport, for me it prints two cards. one I-94 card, and one customs card.

Another reason for a passport
I arrived at T1 YYZ Friday and there was a line of about 20 people for the one operating Nexus machine. So I went to the regular line and the officer was very nice - he said the machines are supposed to be replacing him - he said that Nexus is fine at land borders but the airport is something else. I gave him my Nexus card and he said the passport is required at anything other than a Nexus machine. So I used my passport in both directions: at US secondary on the way to the US and CDN primary on the way home.
BTW the CRJ705 overhead luggage bins are a sad joke. My legal size carry on didn't fit but I solved it on the return by bagging the contents and placing the bag in the overhead and placing the luggage on the floor in front of me. |

Can I use Global Entry if entering the US as a student? I mean normally I would surrender my I-94 when leaving the country (unless to Canada) and then get a new I-94 upon re-entering the US. Can the kiosks print off I-94s with permission to stay as D/S (Duration of Studies)?
