Updating Work Permit Information
I've recently switched from H1-B to Green Card and need to update my GOES documentation for Nexus and GE to reflect the new status. I live in the US far from the Canadian border so it's a bit of a pain to get to a NEXUS office.
Does anyone know if I can update my paperwork at a Global Entry office in the US? If not, I'm going to be connecting to Hong Kong through Vancouver later in the month. I have about a 4 hour layover - is it possible to exit to landside and drop in to the NEXUS office then? I believe no appointment is necessary for documentation updates, right? Thanks! |
I received a new travel document a few weeks ago, updated it at a Nexus office
Yesterday at YYZ T1 I was sent to secondary. CBP agent told me I had an expired document, gave me a very stern talking to, said I was in violation of the terms of the program, and that he would cut me some slack one time only, but that if I used my card again he would revoke it. "And that is no joke". I explained the situation and asked him if he could identify the expired document. No. Just checked on GOES - the expiry date of my new travel document was recorded as 1922/1/1. (not bad for bureaucracy, only off by one century) Am I in violation of the terms of the program? |

Am I in violation of the terms of the program? That being said, I wouldn't use NEXUS until I got that squared away if I were you. |
Had my second-in-a-row random secondary today. VRR. Even the DHS commented on the unrandomness of the system.
(rant on) Has anyone noticed that in the last few months: -- Nexus is getting busier and busier -- horrifying in that there are now actual lines of several people waiting to get to a machine -- and that there are a lot of newbies who just don't seem to have a clue how to get an Iris scan? These new folks just seem absolutely clueless. Is there not some type of intelligence test? Time for a SuperNexus tier? It's getting very annoying. (rant off) |
I have been a Nexus member for about 2 years, and have moved to the US.. I received a letter stating that my membership has been revoked because I have not met the 3 year continuous residency requirement.. Is this correct?
I checked the Nexus website and it says: "Individuals may qualify to participate in NEXUS if they are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada, have resided in either or both countries for the past three years and who pass criminal history and law enforcement checks." No where does it say that I need to live in one place for 3 years. Anyone has similar experience? |

My biggest frustration is that in YVR, you need to talk to an agent after you use the machines. You still get to bypass the primary line, but depending on the agent, he'll just stamp you through, or decide to ask you a bunch of questions. They started doing this apparently because YVR wants them to release the bags, but I guess they like it b/c it lets them screen Nexus users as well. Do any other airports do this or is it a YVR only phenomenon? |

Was it always like this or did they recently start? YYZ still lets you go straight through. Just wondering if this protocol is driven by the airport or if they're planning on slowing down the Nexus lines across the board.
Mind you when I travel for vacation with kids and wife, they simply wave us thru instead of irritating the little ones but still,... |
Just another renewal data point:
Submitted renewal application on Jan 2. Received pre-approval notice this morning, Feb. 9. Haven't attempted to score an interview yet. |

Food and NEXUS
I decided to bring a sealed package of USA inspected sandwich beef (Buddig from Food Basics) and bread to make an in-flight sandwich. I checked off the box in the row with "food" and answered "yes" about it on the NEXUS machine, I was sent to secondary and they insisted on sending my luggage through a scanner and then asked for my statement of what I had with me. The officer said everything was fine and beef clearly identified from the US or Canada is allowed. Before she could finish her sentence, another officer came over and started asking her about someone who had been there and left - like I wasn't present, The rude guy went on and on. Then he asked the woman officer what I had with me - she said packaged beef. So he asked me "what kind of beef was in the package?" I said it was pressed beef. He said what kind of pressed beef - that it must be more than that. I said it was pressed beef. He didn't look, just kept pestering me. He gave up and left for his own desk. Crazy. Then she let me go but had to see my passport first - the NEXUS card is insufficient. I enjoyed my sandwich. The US agents don't all make sense,.
