There are Nexus terminals at the regular US entry point, so I always go that way. You have to go thru security again anyway, there is priority Nexus security access, so I really have never seen the point of the connection route.

We connected ex-SAN in February and went via the connection route. It was backed up terribly and when we got to security, the security people asked us why we didn't just exit the terminal and go through the NEXUS line. (Being YQRers, it didn't occur to us!) Next time we are through there, unless there is basically no line, we will do exactly that.

I always go out and come back in through Nexus at YVR rather than use Connections after one particularly bad experience (and only one so so one). Much faster consistently to not use Connections.

Pearson interview availability; rescheduling interview

And thanks to emcampbe and 172pilot and atsak for responding to my similar post. I took 172pilot and atsak's advice and scheduled an interview in Niagara Falls and will do some site seeing or shopping the same day and make a trip of it.

At least I did confirm:
  • Once an interview is scheduled you can attempt to reschedule without affecting your existing interview schedule (unless you find something better and decide to book that).
  • Finally I do see interviews are now available again at Pearson (although not for 3 months, i.e. start of April).

Interview-to-Card time?

I assume after your interview they will email you a NEXUS card, right?

So now that I have an interview scheduled for February 10 in Niagara Falls:
  • Can I expect to get my NEXUS card in time for my March break vacation (I leave March 10)?
  • Can I do everything I need at the Niagara Falls office (i.e. the iris scan, and doing practice readings with it too) (anything else I need to do)?

Last I checked, they can't reproduce the RFID function of the card through email:)

But seriously...based on previous posts, 1 month will be plenty of time for the card. Most people seem to receive them in 1 - 2 weeks.

OOPS - of course that should have been MAIL mot Email.
But good to hear I will be all set for my March vacation.

Does this work even if you have baggage checked through to the US?

Another wait time data point: I enrolled on 22 Nov and was conditionally approved on 5 January, so a bit over six weeks (with holidays intervening). Interview appointments were readily available at most of the ground crossings, but I scheduled one for March anyways since I won't be headed north until then.

I don't normally have checked baggage. Only time I did, it was on a International to Canada connect.

You ought to get the card on time. In our case it was about three weeks (May 2010) between interview and card receipt. Don't forget that you have to go online to activate the cards, too (although this is pretty simple).

As for "everything [you] need", they can do everything you need at the Niagara Falls, NY office except for iris scans. I understand that they'll give you a bridge toll pass to let you make a trip to the Canadian side to do the scan immediately after your interview. Alternatively you can pop into the NEXUS office at your local airport (Pearson I assume) and get your scans done before your next US flight.

Hi, I have a question regarding the NEXUS card.

I am currently a Canadian Citizen and I am studying in the United States for my post-secondary studies. I just submitted my application through GOES. I did not commit and offence or any of that sort. Will my application likely to go through? The reason why I applied is because I do travel back and forth quite a bit each year so it does make my life a lot more easier having Nexus status.

Thanks!

You are correct. During the interview they should ask if you want the iris scan. If not just ask them. They provide you with a free toll pass to use the bridge. Once on the Canadian side you go into the office, they scan your iris and your on your way. There never seems to be a wait so definately the way to go.

One final piece of advice. Don't try to cross from Canada to the US at the Whirlpool bridge (where the NEXUS office is). This bridge is for NEXUS card holders only. You will need to cross at the Rainbow or Queenstown-Lewiston bridge and then drive over to the Whirlpool bridge on the US side. For the return, as per my previous post, you can use the Whirlpool bridge with the free toll pass that they will provide.

Shouldn't be a problem. I'm in the same situation and I got my NEXUS with no problems. They asked me why I wanted a NEXUS card at the interview and the reason you gave above is the same thing I said.
