This is a very yyz-centric statement.

AC is a YYZ & YUL centric airline, seemingly HQ'ed in YYZ (I know the real HQs are in YUL), with spokes in YVR and LHR, and feeds in YYC, YEG, YHZ, and YOW. ;)

But Shareholder's statement is untrue for YUL, for example. There is a nexus lane for security pre-transborder.

The Nexus lane in YUL merely allows for priority access, not a different level of screening, which is why it was allowed under the old rules. OTOH, at YYZ domestic, Nexus members are never subject to the nude-o-scope. Lanes like that, that change the screening protocol for Nexus holders, were not allowed for transborder passengers until the announcement this week.

trusted traveler program application

when filling out the trusted traveler program application, the part where it states" I would like to use this program to travel"

Into the United States across the land border from Canada or Mexico (SENTRI: SENTRI enrollment centers)

and/ or

Into Canada via land, air or sea (NEXUS; will require a visit to an enrollment center on the U.S./Canada land border or at a major airport in Canada: NEXUS enrollment centers)

Im a little confused, do I just fill out the bottom option, for Nexus? the way its worded it sounds like I just want to use the program for travel into Canada, and If i wanted to travel to the usa, then I would need to check the first option as well? to travel to USA?

Just fill in Nexus...you don't want SENTRI...that is for the Mexico-US Border.

Renewal?

To renew a Nexus card, is it as simple as going to GOES and hitting the misnamed "renew application" button? And is the existing Nexus card still good until its expiry, or a new one is issued, whichever comes first (unlike a passport which is invalid on the day you apply to renew)?

What's the typical turnaround for (a) the renewal application to be approved for an interview, and (b) getting an interview, at YOW or YUL?

Any other tips on what to do/not do appreciated.

Thanks!

My Nexus card and GE expired Jun of 2012, however I wanted to renew it early since I will be doing alot of travelling in 2012 and this last month was a good time for me to do it. Once I did the renewal application, it was almost 8 weeks before I heard from them. Made a date for Dec 6 in downtown Vancouver, interview took less than 5 min. New pic, and finger prints. By the time I got home had a message on my computer that I had been re-approved. Got my new Nexus card in about 4 days. Your old Nexus card is valid until expiry or until you go to the Nexus website and input your new Nexus card number. I was told then to destroy my old Nexus card.

Thanks for the data point. This would be a renewal (3.5mo) roughly within their guidelines (3mo). How long after they send the conditional approval (or request for interview) do you have to go for the interview? It would be awful to have it fast and then miss the interview window because of not being home.

I believe you have 30 days to pick a date from date of conditional approval. I got my renewel approval in mid Nov, but was going away so picked a day in the first week of December. Also was told to bring all documentation, this may vary from place to place as they asked for nothing but passport and drivers license, but dont take a chance take all they request.

ALW Dec 16, 2011 7:16 pm

Thanks. 30 days sounds pretty short. It would be bad to get an approval 6 weeks before end of a US vacation.

What other docs did you have?

No, you have up to 30 days to pick a date which can be outside the 30 days. I am sure you will have use of computer if you are away from yours, so just keep checking while your away. I took the letter of approval, which you must take, my birth certificate, and my electric bill and one credit card statement to verify my home address plus my two passports, US and Canadian. The only thing they asked to see were the two passports and DL, however when you get your letter of invitation to make your appointment it will list certain items that they ask you to take, just because I was not asked to see the doc's I brought does not mean that you won't be asked to show them, so take everthing with you, better safe than sorry.

Great thanks, and yes I'll be online all the time anyway. :)

How were you advised that an interview or a new piccy or finger printing was necessary? My Nexus expires in early Feb, so I completed the renewal application on GOES in early Nov. I just got notice of approval on the GOES site. The message states that I should continue using my current card until I receive a new one. It appeared to me from the way the message was worded that the card would be sent to me without further action being taken on my part. It says nothing about a new interview, but perhaps I need one after all?

Looking for pointers? Read a bit about the Nexus but everybody had a different use for it it seems.

I am going to Europe via New York EWR (1.5 hrs for plane change different terminals it says) next April from YYC. Coming back more directly via Montreal. Is there a benefit of applying for it and my wife for this trip? Travels to USA lately has been sparse. Thanks for all suggestions.
