Thanks for the reply mabramovich.

May I ask how long it took your application to go through? Like how long did it take them to approve it online so you can book your appointment? Also, what questions did they ask you?

Thanks!

I accidentally reposted and did not know how to delete this post. Sorry!

On the renewal, is it necessary to add an "Admissibility Documents" item?

If yes, then since one of the items in the dropdown is "passport" can you say passport again or do you have to have a separate document like Birth Certificate?

Thanks!

There's another confusing question, it says this, which implies NEXUS is not for entry into the US. SENTRI is for the southern border, right? So just checking NEXUS is the way to go?

I would like to use this program to travel:
- Into the United States across the land border from Canada or Mexico (SENTRI: SENTRI enrollment centers)
- Into Canada via land, air or sea (NEXUS; will require a visit to an enrollment center on the U.S./Canada land border or at a major airport in Canada: NEXUS enrollment centers)
Thanks!
=aw

[Added: I'm thinking one should check both into US and into Canada boxes. Doing that doesn't seem to force a visit to the SENTRI office.]

To answer half my own question, not including an Admissibility Document is an error. Question is still if the same passport can be used as for citizenship.

[Okay, to answer that question, if you pick Passport on the dropdown it asks if you want to use the same passport.]

My experience as well. Believe the old paper apps asked for something else, but online, I just selected passport for my recent renewal & picked the best one (I'm dual) and went on. After all, if my US (or Canadian, for that matter) passport isn't good enough to admit me into the country, not sure what a birth certificate or citizenship card will do.

I'm betting where this is more important is if you require a Visa. For example, my SO, who is Canadian but lives in the US on an H1-B entered the visa in the admissibility documents section.

Thanks!

Conditional approval took about 7 weeks when I applied in early September. There was a 4-week wait for the interview, but I suspect it varies depending on your preferred location.

I wrote a detailed report about my interview on page 244 of this thread (post #3651). My situation is not the same as yours, but I suspect that the questions are similar for most applicants.

3 weeks wait to get it approved (I applied back in June).

As for the interview, basically no questions at all. Canadian side just asked me for my documents and told me I can't use NEXUS until I provide proof of my US address (which I didn't have yet).

American side asked me why I wanted it and what I was going to be studying -- but I think that was more of a chat than an official interview.

This was at Pearson. When I came home for Canadian Thanksgiving I dropped by the NEXUS office with a letter from my school saying I lived in residence and they took that as proof of US address and I've used NEXUS from then on.

So, I ended up getting an appointment at YYZ for 10/Jan (11 days after conditional approval), which is today. I went in at my slotted time, Canadian side took around 10 mins, following by a 10 min wait, following by US side for around 20 mins.

Canadian side only asked me to verify name, address, DOB, etc. US side asked all that but also went into my "interesting" travels a little bit. US side gave me a little CBP sticker.

One interesting thing the US side said was that Global Entry is active immediately, so I could technically have used the YYZ US preclearance Global Entry kiosk immediately.

Another wait time data point: I enrolled on 22 Nov and was conditionally approved on 5 January, so a bit over six weeks (with holidays intervening). Interview appointments were readily available at most of the ground crossings, but I scheduled one for March anyways since I won't be headed north until then.

Applied 11/28 and conditionally approved today 1/11. So about the same timeline.

I wish there were appointments available for my location now. The earliest available is end of February. Hopefully when I check tomorrow something sooner will have opened up. :p

Approved!!!! After rejection in 2007. Yeehaw!

There is hope! I just received my conditional approval and request for interview, and this after being rejected once before due to a Canadian Customs violation way back when (2003?). I'm not sure if first getting approved for CANPASS, so that I was able to feature that membership prominently on my NEXUS re-application made the difference, but I'm grateful someone, somewhere looked at the entire application and approved it!
On a mechanical note, I've scheduled an interview at a border crossing in 3 weeks, as the local airport appointments were coming up in April, and was wondering how the people who have successfully re-scheduled an interview on a closer date did so. Do you constantly hit "Back" and look for appointments at different locations? How often do you check? Every few minutes? Every few hours?
Crazy, but while I was typing this, I went to "Manage my interview" and received an interview a full week earlier than I had booked just 30 minutes ago, so I guess I answered my own question!

Mental patient

Jeez, I feel like a mental patient stalking the GOES website looking for closer appointments for my family and I! Hope they don't measure the traffic coming from my IP address to the GOES site - it might look like some weird denial-of-service attack.

Well, after ten weeks of waiting, I received my final verdict.

My NEXUS application denied by the US processing center in Williston, Vermont.
The crazy thing is that they can't/won't tell me WHY it was denied, so the way forward is a bit murky: How can you appeal a decision based upon information nobody is willing to share?

On the bright side, my wife's application was approved. She can go through and wait for our luggage while I sit in an interminable queue!

Without asking, is there any reason you think they would have denied you? Past History?

If so, appeal probably won't get your far.
