Not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread before, but it looks like the process for renewing NEXUS cards will be changing.

Starting soon (no exact date), if you are already a NEXUS member, and you are renewing your NEXUS card, you will no longer be required to go to a NEXUS office to complete the renewal process.

All you have to do is complete the renewal application online, pay the fee, wait for the application to be processed, and once your pass, your new card will be mailed to you.

You will only be required to go to the NEXUS office if there is an issue with your application, or your need to get your fingerprints done.

I received this information from a CBSA after I completed my renewal interview in Fort Erie last week.

Can you do everything at Niagara Falls?

The Canadian officer and I talked about baseball stats and baseball stadiums, while the American was more business-like, but still friendly, despite one of my fellow applicant's questions.

A friend is trying to do everything at once, interview and Iris scan. Can she do everything on the Canadian side in Niagara Falls?

Thnx.

Already in place. It is how my renewal went through.

No, the actual enrollment center in Niagara Falls is on the US side, which is where everyone has to go for their interviews. Those who also want an iris scan are sent across the Whirlpool Bridge to do so on the Canadian side (and are given a pass to use the bridge--no toll necessary). Of course, except for this one exception, you must have a NEXUS card to use the Whirlpool Bridge, so your friend would need to cross into the US for her interview using one of the other bridges.

Your friend would have to use (and have an appointment at) the enrollment center near the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie in order to do everything on the Canadian side without crossing into the US.

Canadian NEXUS members using Global Entry??

Help! I’ve read through many, many pages here and I’m still not quite clear on the whole Global Entry thing. I'm going to be doing to overseas connections via IAH, and really want to make sure my ducks are in a row!
• NEXUS automatically gives Canadians the ability to use Global Entry into the U.S. (without applying separately for that program) – so, as a Nexus member, I don’t need to do anything else in order to use GE. That correct?

• But I’ve read in a few places that a Nexus member still needs to be fingerprinted by US CBP before you can use Global Entry. Is that true? (If so, how do I get fingerprinted? The Nexus offices in Canada are ‘appointment only’, but the GOES website won’t let you book an appointment unless you’re in the application process!?)

• When flying overseas into the U.S., how do young kids work in Global Entry? (We have our two toddlers in Nexus. They don’t have Iris scans – too young – so the Nexus rules allow us to go straight to either the crew counter or special services when we’re flying with them.)

If I’m flying a regular ol’ crossborder flight – Canada to USA – and the Nexus machines are either down or lined up, can I use Global Entry instead? Or is it only allowed for US bound travelers who originate “overseas” (i.e. non cross-border international)?
Regards,
Globally Confused

The NEXUS Information Thread

Log on to your GOES account. There will be a message (in red, I think...it's been a long time since I paid attention) that will either tell you something to the effect that you can use GE, or that you need to get your fingerprints taken. Usually, if you had all fingerprints scanned during the initial nexus interview, you get the first message.

If you need your fingerprints done, just show up at any Nexus office and tell them that's why you're there - no appt necessary. This can also be done at any GE office in the US.

Once that's done - you just use the GE machine like anyone else.

1. See the post from emcampbe.
2. See above.
3. Your children are likely too young to be fingerprinted. You can use the front-of-the-line privilege that comes with their Global Entry memberships. Simply visit the nearest passport control desk with them after you use the kiosk.
4. You can use the GE kiosk at anytime, at any location, including in Canada. It is even preferable to the NEXUS kiosk, as it allows you to avoid completing CBP Form 6059B.

Yes.

Yes, although I thought fingerprinting was done as part of the interview now. You should be able to get that done at any GE enrollment center as a walk-in. I'm not sure if all NEXUS centers do fingerprints, but I know Whirlpool Bridge will (would) do it as a walk-in.

To determine what needs to be done, log in to your GOES account. If you are already GE-enabled, the bottom of the screen will say:

• Global Entry Benefit: As a NEXUS member, you can now use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable U.S. passport. Do not use your NEXUS card in the kiosk, but you may wish to carry it with you. There is no additional cost to use Global Entry, and you may use it for the duration of your NEXUS membership. Additional information about Global Entry can be found at http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. If you do not wish to use Global Entry kiosks, please disregard this message.

If you are not already enabled for GE, the message will say:

• Global Entry Benefit: As a NEXUS member, you will be able to use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. once you provide your 10-fingerprints to CBP. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable U.S. passport. If you wish to use Global Entry, please contact any Trusted Traveler Enrollment Center to schedule an appointment to have your fingerprints captured. Enrollment center information can be found at http://www.NEXUS.gov/, http://www.SENTRI.gov/ or http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. Until very recently, children under 13 were not eligible for GE. That has changed, and subsequently, the Global Entry enrollment center can put a fingerprint waiver on their account and they will be eligible to use GE kiosks, although they will get an "X" on their slip. You should just be able to show that on the way out and be waved on.

Remember that to check everyone's GOES accounts (including the kids) before traveling - everyone in the family must have the GE approval before travel, otherwise you could run into some problems with CBP.

I learned this the hard way at JFK... Kids had iris scans and finger prints I believe but still weren't registered for Global Entry.

I might have my bridges all mixed up, but fingerprints can definitely be done on the Whirlpool (US) side... the one that's under the over pass.

Iris scan can be done on the Canadian side. FWIW, if you're traveling solo, they'll give you a one-time toll pass so you don't have to pay for bridge toll when crossing the Whirlpool.

Just a timing update for those who care:

Applied: Aug 14
Conditional Approval: Sep 5
Interview/Approval: Sept 28
Card Received: Oct 10

Less than 2 months end-to-end. Not exactly fast but not horrific either.

Yeah, I was surprised that after filling in the renewal form about 3 weeks back, I just got notification that everything was "approved" and I would merely receive the updated card.

Ther was no indication of any interview or on site process, so I came looking here to see if I missed something. Sounds like the process is streamlined for us existing members!

Where did you get your interview so fast?

Does the GOES site tell you when it is time to renew, or do you have to initiate the process on your own?
