The kids were interviewed first, one at a time, separately from us. It took about 2 or 3 minutes each, as they only asked biographical questions and took photos. They are under 14 and aren't eligible for GE, so their fingerprints weren't taken.

Our CBP interviews were only slightly longer, less than 5 minutes each. We verified our biographical information, and they asked us if we had ever been arrested, convicted of a crime, refused entry to any country, or had any problem at any border station. They did a fingerprint scan and took a photo. The officers looked at our passports during the interview. They did not want our auto registration information, and they did not ask for any other documents. The CPB officers were friendly.

We were told that the Nexus cards will arrive in approximately two weeks. GE does not require a card; the passport is linked to the GE information. I asked what we do when we renew our passports, and I was told that I should go to the GOES website and update the information when we get new passports. (There was no mention of the stickers that have been discussed in this thread.)

After a wait of a few minutes, we had our Canadian interview in the next room.

The Canadian officer only wanted to speak to the adults (both at the same time), but he offered to have the children sit in the room with us. He was quite pleasant, but his demeanor was more formal/official than that of the CBP officers.

He asked us why we wanted Nexus. When I said that I visit Canada for work, he spent about 5 minutes discussing the need to get a work permit if I plan to receive any payment from a Canadian organization.

He went over the rules of entry and the entry procedures at border stations, marinas, and airports, and was strict in his repeated warnings that we had to follow specific rules. He made it clear that if we break the rules/laws, we will lose our Nexus privileges, which are only for "trusted travelers." He said that we had already undergone background checks, and we were considered to be "trusted travelers" and we should not do anything to lose our privileges.

He gave us information pamphlets on Nexus, GE, and the Blaine sector. This last one included specific information on obtaining an iris scan at the YVR office. Scans are available without an appointment, but only between the hours of 8:30 am and 3:30 pm.

It was a painless experience and the entire process lasted exactly 45 minutes for all 4 of us.

I can't wait for our 1.5 year old and 6 year old to be interviewed. LOL. I assume it will be smile, stamp and there yougo.

I'm looking forward to our 7 week old being interviewed.

I suppose they have to double check a few things, but common sense tells me you would have been weeded out immediately if you had been convicted of a crime (at least in Canada and the USA) and some of the other items you mentioned.

Glad to see your report anyway, as I am going for my interview next week.

I am kind of surprised they even have interviews on Thanksgiving, considering what a big day it is state side.

Agreed. I think they are checking for suspicious behavior and also making sure that we didn't get into trouble after the background check, which they did a month ago.

We were surprised about Thanksgiving also, but since it is a bi-national program, they didn't get the day off. In any case, they need to staff the station today because BFI is an international airport, though tiny. We scheduled the interviews today because we wouldn't have to take time off work and we don't have plans until this afternoon.

Exactly 4 weeks since I applied and no word yet on the GOES website. Seems processing times are still in excess of 1 month.

Has anyone gone through the renewal process for NEXUS? My current card expires in June so curious what to expect. (Also be interested to see how UA will pay my GE fee as a 1K (a new benefit for 2012).

I'm still not sure how it works with UA paying the GE fee - perhaps a statement credit on the credit card?

Anyway, renewal isn't a big deal. My girlfriend's father did it earlier this year. You resubmit the application, updated for currency, then do another interview. Its a shorter interview.

My family too! I applied last year around the same time and was approved/interviewed within ~2 weeks of submitting my online application. But after finally convincing mr.pxy_a to get his as well (along with jr.), it has been over a month of waiting and the status is still 'pending review'.

I was hoping mr.pxy_a would have received his before our upcoming December trip which transits through the US - now I will have to wait in the long YYZ customs line to keep him company (somehow he doesn't like my proposed plan to just meet him in the lounge ;))

Very familiar sounding. I applied for mine about a year ago and got it in no time. My wife was hung up on the iris scan, but after listening to me whine about it several times as we sat in yyz customs lines, she applied first week of September. Took her almost 6 weeks to get approved and then no interviews were showing up at YYZ. I checked every day for a week, found a cancelation 2 days out and she got it in time such that wewere able to both use NEXUS last weekend :)

My wife, my son and I went to Blaine office for our interview. It took about 40 minutes for the three of us. We were approved. The minute we left the office, me and my son received e-mails from goes. When I log on to my account, it says nexus application is approved (same for my son). But my wife did not receive any e-mail and her online GOES account is not updated. Should we be concerned? How long did it take you guys (for you GOES account to be updated)? Thanks.

The four of us left the office at 9:00 am on November 24, and all of our accounts were updated at 9:25 am.

I went to YUL for my interview on November 12th. I was only asked to verify my contact information, no other questions. In and out in 30 minutes, iris scan, finger prints and photo taken.

Left YUL at 11:30, recieved account status change email at 11:40 and received my card in the mail on November 23rd.

I don't think it can be much smoother than that!!!

onlyfornexus Nov 27, 2011 7:30 pm

Thanks guys. My wife actually got her approval this morning (18 hours delay?). All good now. So 10 days for the cards to arrive?

onlyfornexus Nov 27, 2011 7:31 pm

BTW, For those who keep track, the CBP officer in Blaine, gave us "CBP" stickers for GE. He told us it should not be needed though. Just in case.
