Thanks for the other replies, I hope not to have an issue tomorrow!

ALL Nexus kiosks down yesterday afternoon/night @ YVR International/US arrivals with signs over screens telling people to go to Booth 1/2 (Diplomat/Crew lane). Walk right up and hand over form and Nexus cards to Officer and he asks for Passports. Are Nexus cards not acceptable if used in person? It wasn't a problem, we had passports, but they were at the bottom of my carry-on bag. If the sign had said, "Proceed to booth 1/2 and present passports" it would have been easier as I could have dug them out without a line of people backing up behind me

Not by air, only by ground. If you clear Customs at an airport through a persion as opposed to a kiosk, you need to use your passport.

I called the NEXUS today and they confirmed I have to drive down to the airport and show them my passport. I'm thinking this NEXUS has been more hassle than good. I only got it to avoid the same sex border crossing issues we were having.
I cross the border once to twice a year, and I usually get called into secondary anyway so it doesn't save time. I can see how it's a great service for people who cross often.

I use it for my whole family, even once or twice a year is worth it to save time in line.

As for secondaries, it may just be bad luck, sadly

Question for all

I have a road crossing tomorrow into the US for a trade show. Usually, I would use the regular lane if I had all my trade show stuff with me, but someone else is bringing it down, so I will have no commercial merchandise with me.

Will I run into any issues crossing with Nexus with that explanation ?

Turned out to be much ado about nothing. Although, like all my other crossings, it always depends who the border guard is...

Thank you again

Yes, there are machines at YYZ T3. Used it before.

About to travel out of T3 on US Thanksgiving. I want to be extra clear on the question.....Are there Nexus machines in T3 for pre-clearance to the US?

Not really. You do the work updating the system (and I suspect that new passport would then work) and they like to see things but not enter them in the system. It is a lot of trust but verify and they say that.

There are two and one Global Entry as well. If you have GE and NEXUS are in use , use GE , and if it is not busy and you have GE and haven't used it, you can try it there and know how it works when you arrive in the US.

There are 4 or 5 on arrival and a fenced off route to them from the arrival doors to immigration.

The GE add-on is the only reason I finally signed up, though I enjoy NEXUS on arrival, I stopped flying with connections INTL- US- CAN in Miami as it is so awful.

Last month immigration via GE, one minute then right to the luggage area.

Interesting at Pearson T1 today; US DHS dude wanted to see the Nexus card. Examined it carefully, and the first time I've ever seen this done, diligently compared the number on the Nexus card to the number on the Nexus form spit out by the machine. Isn't this kind of a useless exercise?

Well I am sure that as it is OK to use only under WHTI and they have busted machines they would probably allow someone who didn't bring a pssport to go through.

Or they would take their card away because the rules clearly state that you must carry your passport with you when you fly, even if you have a Nexus card. The card is only accepted as proof of citizenship/identity at marine and land border crossing.

See: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexu...uveid-eng.html

Confusing? Yes. But that's the rule.

They've done that at YEG the last six times I've crossed, dating back to the start of the year. Kind of caught me off guard the first time because I'd never had it out in my hand before. He checked the card against the ticket, while I'm standing there thinking "isn't my iris scan way more secure at proving I am in the program."

YEGTigger Nov 17, 2011 3:29 pm

Got my first RR today using NEXUS to fly to the US. Flying YYC to PHX. Got to US Preclearance about 90 minutes before the flight. Stepped up to the one working machine. Answered that I had said "no" to all questions. Out spits the ticket. "V-RR" Great:rolleyes:

I've had the random inspection twice coming home to Canada, and they did a full and complete search of my luggage each time. So, I'm prepared for the worst.

The primary officer escorts me to secondary, they scan my documents, x-ray my bags (1 carry on). Officer asks my purpose, date of return, amount of cash, and whether I have food, alcohol or tobacco. Sends me on my way. Three minutes. I'm pretty sure I looked shocked.

So, here I am sitting the gate area waiting for the flight to PHX.
