If kids don't have Nexus

If my kids don't have Nexus but I do, can I do my iris scan thing then go to special services with my kids? Or do we all have to go through the regular lines and actually speak to an agent?

There are no NEXUS lanes for any Saskatchewan border crossings (including airports). I'm not aware of any land crossings that even have NEXUS card readers, unless North Portal, SK/Portal, ND does (it might; it supports the FAST program).

Technically no. You are only permitted to use the special services line because the kids are in nexus but can't use the kiosk.

In practice, I hand over the kids passports and family declaration card at special services. I'd bet they don't always check if the kids are enrolled. YMMV.

Location of Nexus office at YUL?

Has the Nexus office moved with the airport expansion? It used to be at the very end, arrivals level. The YUL website just says an office number but not exactly where it is.

New passport means Nexus update which means a trip to the airport if we want to avoid the lines. I believe we don't need an appointment for that. Do we need to do anything else besides a trip to Nexus office with passport and card?

Thanks!

and most times, even for a daytrip, at a regular CBSA booth, they wave you through anyway… YMMV

Trouble is, sometimes if you go down south (or north from Windsor) with Nexus, and return north in the regular lanes they'll ask you why you didn't use Nexus on the return. I just say I don't have my book.

ALW Nov 21, 2010 6:18 pm

That sums it up well. I would suggest "I forgot to fill out the form" in case they look and see your book.

Regarding new passport, I found this at http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexu...es-eng.html#c1

NEXUS members can access the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) to update address changes, passport and Permanent Resident Card information. Even if you did not apply using GOES, you can still confirm or update your information by creating a GOES account, which enables you to view and modify your file.
If we update passport info in GOES, is there anything else we have to do?

Thanks!

Correct, no appointment needed. Just show up with the passport and they'll take a quick photocopy of it.

Have you tried to make the change in GOES?
I ask because when I go in there is no way to modify any of the info.

I am able to update my passport information in GOES.... but I still plan on stopping by at the NEXUS office before my next trip.

There should be a link on the left to update your documents.

YVR C - do they actually ask this question if you present a passport rather than a Nexus card? The US and Canadian systems are supposed to be independent, with the information confidential to each country. So how would they know when and where you entered? If they have that information, why would they ask? If you present a Nexus card at a non-Nexus lane, then they might get suspicious and ask why you didn't use the Nexus lane. I have a Nexus card but I have always had a passport along. If I use the non-Nexus lane into Canada, which is most of the time, I present the passport. I have never been asked about why I didn't use the Nexus lane. BTW If I did use a Nexus lane and didn't have the declaration form, I wonder if they would accept a verbal declaration. I much prefer the US system where you make a verbal declaration whether or not you use Nexus.

ALW,

Passport change counts as an update to document specified on the Nexus application.

Each office handles document updates differently. At YYC there is a window between 8-830am where they accept anybody without an appointment. This is because while the office opens at 8am the first appointment is not until 8:30. If you want to arrive aftger 8:30; then be prepared to wait in line behind everyone else who has an appointment.

Last month I had issue with TN Visa that expired ( I was not renewing said visa) and I still had to go into the YYC Nexus Office to present my passport and nexus card. I phoned ahead and got permission to come by at any time if I was willing to wait at the office for an available time. When I got to the office the US Nexus officer photocopied my Nexus and Passport and sent me on my way. Total time at Nexus office was about 15 minutes, but YMMV.

Thanks for all the answers but I'm still confused. This is the full set of instructions on the CBSA site at http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexu...s-eng.html#c1:

Updates to personal information

NEXUS members can access the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) to update address changes, passport and Permanent Resident Card information. Even if you did not apply using GOES, you can still confirm or update your information by creating a GOES account, which enables you to view and modify your file.

You must visit a NEXUS Enrolment Centre at once if one of the following applies:

* you have other updates to personal information;
* your primary purpose of travel changes; or
* changes occur that could affect your NEXUS membership, such as an arrest, a criminal charge, a conviction, or a customs or immigration violation in Canada or the United States.
The only reference to passports or documents is that the info can be updated on GOES. I was originally planning to go to a Nexus office but these instructions really don't mention needing to do it (and it's CBSA's site directing Nexus members to dhs.gov so it's not a US/Canadian thing).

Getting, or finishing, a TN status, would fall under "your primary purpose of travel changes" I think, and that would require a trip to a Nexus office. When my last TN expired, I also went to a Nexus office, both because of what I just said, and because I had to hand in the I-94 form (irrespective of Nexus, you're supposed to hand in the form when you no longer need it).

I'll go to YUL or YOW if I have to, but it's inconvenient and potentially expensive if it isn't necessary (i.e. if providing your new passport number on GOES is an _alternative_ to having them copy it).

I don't want to overlook something and end up delayed at the border, but I'm kind of hoping to do only what I have to. :)

I just did a quick trip to the US - needed to get a couple of things done - so crossed at the Rainbow - was in NF on the US side for about two hours, and had about $30 worth of groceries with me, so used the regular lane coming back to Canada. Showed my Nexus card and no such questions. Even if they do ask you, there shouldn't be a problem - having Nexus does not require you to use it every trip. For example, when I fly up to YYZ with my SO, who doesn't have Nexus yet - I always wait in the regular line with her - I've never ever been asked why I didn't go to the machine myself.

If its just a passport update, yes, kind of confusing with all the language between the website, member guide and what the officers say. Last time I was in the YYZ office, I kind of got the impression from the officer I spoke with that the US wants it updated on GOES, Canada prefers it to be in person at the office. Personally, I now update GOES as soon as I receive a new passport, and stop by the office to update it the next time I am near one.
