Thanks. That explains why they take a month to schedule an interview while the none airport locations take a couple days.

I stand corrected; thanks. I was repeating what my enrollment folks told me :(

Advanced Passenger Info
Hey Nexus users... do you still need to fill out the Advanced Passenger Information request on the Air Canada site or is it not necessary because of the Nexus card?

The APIS can handle Nexus ID numbers as well as Passport numbers, though I don't believe any airlines are currently allowing you to enter Nexus ID numbers online (should accept them at airport check-in though, if the agent knows what they are doing). |

You still still complete APIS as it tells CBP who is on the plane; being a Nexus member just means you'd be unlikely to flag in the system.

I haven't tried using my Nexus as ID at check-in for a long time, but I stopped trying a couple of years ago or so because even AC check in counters in the US basically stopped accepting them, at least I had a hard time. Kiosk's generally can't read the code on the back of the Nexus cards, even though it looks pretty identical, to my untrained eyes anyway, to that on the bottom of passport picture pages. And US-based carriers in particular tend to specifically require a passport. Since one needs to have a passport with oneself anyway when flying even when using Nexus, its easier to just use my passport. |

I know it is in this thread somewhere, but I can't seem to come up with the right search terms to find it.
Are all the Nexus interview locations now equipped with the iris photo equipment? If not, is there a list of iris photo equipped locations somewhere? |
Great experience at the YYZ T1 domestic security check today. Although it was midday and not busy, they had a dedicated line setup for Nexus card holders on the far-right (distinct from the other "priority"/wheelchair line). Only one other person in front of me, vs. 10 others in regular line. Plus, the people in the NEXUS line travel frequently and have the routine down pat. Final bonus: no body scanner in this lane!

When they first installed this lane they were using it for training ... helloo! I guess they had a lot of complaints because when I used it last week - same experience as yours - fast, easy, courteous CATSA clerks, and through in under 2 minutes. |
Nexus Requirements
Sailboat races in BC often cross the US-Canada border.
As a boat owner, I want trouble-free entry into US marinas. Having crew members bring Nexus cards seems a reasonable solution. On the Nexus website, eligibility rules include "...no criminal convictions..." but nothing is mentioned of outstanding charges or warrants. Is it possible for a Canadian with outstanding warrants in the US to obtain a Nexus Card? |
From what I understand: outstanding warrants disqualify a person from NEXUS unless it concerns a minor infraction such as unpaid traffic tickets. If it is unpaid parking/speeding tickets, then the person should just pay the fine. If it is more serious, then the application could trigger Homeland Security to deny the individual entry to/exit from the country.
In short, the individual in question should consult attorneys on both sides of the border before s/he cross. |

Check-in agent in BOS had to ask for a supervisor who opened a binder of ID cards and starting looking through for an example of a NEXUS card. The security ID checker waved me through to the metal detector, then while waiting for space to put my bag on the conveyor, asks "where yall from?" in a shocking display of humanity  I said Canada. She then proclaimed "CANADA!!" and asked to see my passport instad of my drivers licence  But I had so much fun as a kid growing up in the state good 'ol state of NEXUS under governor CBP The TSA guy at security in ORD said flatly that "NEXUS... They went out of business long ago." United GA in ORD to his co-worker: "How do I do a NEXUS?" His Sup: "None of that, demand a passport." Airport police @ YUL when given BP and NEXUS on route to gate 50 from domestic area: "NON. Your travelll documents. your papers, sir. you need your passport and papers to show who you are." |

There was poster made by TSA for the airlines showing how to use APIS with various documents (http://www.greencards.com/docs/DepArrivalUSA.pdf). For Nexus, they put in "IN" then the card ID instead of "P" then the passport number. I don't think they've updated it since the new card was released. I always use my Nexus card and ask for a supervisor if necessary, but also carry a backup just in case. |
