I am generally impressed with the GOES system.

I have a NEXUS card, but no iris scans on file.

You need to schedule an appointment with CBP ro get the interview and the sticker for your Passport. Nothing will come in the mail.

Log back into GOES to schedule an appointment.

GM, my GOES does not show anywhere to make an appointment; t shows me as approved. I thought I was automatically approved by having NEXUS and thus did not need an interview, no?

That's correct, drop by any GE office to pickup your passport sticker, no interview is required.

Nexus with a US Visa

I've been a long-time Nexus member, and as I expect my SO will be coming to Canada with me more in the future, I want to look at getting her Nexus too. We are both US residents - I'm a dual US/Canada citizen, she's a Canadian citizen, who works in the US on an H1-B work visa.

As I understand, she is eligible to apply and be enrolled in Nexus with her status. As I also understand, when she enrolls, in addition to her passport and other document she provides, she also needs to provide a copy of her visa, which is all good.

However, is there any Nexus member on here who currently enters the US on a US visa regularly, with experience on if the process is the same as it is with, say me, who enters the US without a visa?

For her, she would enter Canada as a visitor, for say, a weekend to visit my family with me, and then return to the US to work. Currently, when going through immigration back to the US, she always is asked by the officer to show her visa paperwork, as expected. Assuming she is approved for a Nexus, would she be sent back to secondary to show this paperwork everytime? If not, it might not be worth it. Or is it pretty much the same, with probably random referrals every so often, but the normal experience of being able to answer the questions at the kiosk and proceeding through customs to security.

Yes.

I have a B1/B2 visa which gives me entry to the US for 6 months at a time. When I need a new I-94 card then I need to go through the regular lines. Each time I get a new card I need to update that card with Nexus, after which I can use Nexus as anyone else.

I have only had one secondary when entering the US over the last 3 years of being a Nexus member. As long as all the paperwork is updated she will not need to speak to anyone when entering the US, other than occasional referrals to secondary.

Passport sticker? What passport sticker? I have never been to a GE office for a passport sticker and have used the kiosk several times now. Hmm...

It's a technicality that, as near as my experience indicates, is only a big deal at ORD. I had GOES for six months before I dropped in for my sticker. Probably 20+ entries and, as I said, only ORD cared. No issues IAD, JFK, MIA, SJU, SFO, LAX...

After years of procrastination, Mrs. TD and I applied for our Nexus cards a couple of weeks ago. We did it online and quickly got an invitation for an appointment. The next appointment dates for YYZ were in January so we opted to go down to Fort Erie where appointments were available as early as the next day! I would have preferred the Niagara Falls office, but they're closed on Mondays. We combined the interview with a trip down to the peninsula last night to visit my parents and went in to Fort Erie first thing this morning. Painless interview process - they did us both together, very friendly but professional agents for both Canada and the US. Fingerprints were taken and submitted during the US interview and our criminal records checks came back clear before he'd finished explaining things.

They did emphasize that we should go online and update _any_ information that changes: passports, DLs, and even employment status. They weren't overly familiar with the airport system since they deal mainly with land crossings, but they do have a kiosk for training and we did a test run fine.

On the way home we got emails saying our GOES Account status had changed and we're already approved. The Canadian agent said that the cards could come in the mail as early as this Friday, but likely early next week. As has been discussed above, she also pointed out that if you are over your limit and fill out the card and use Nexus there's no discretion and you'll pay the full amount of any duty owing whereas if you go through the regular line there's a chance that the agent will wave you through.

All in all a good experience and I'm looking forward to getting my card and trying it out!

That's nice of them to say except you can't update DL or employment status online

Entered Canada, and a kiosk said that it was unable to process me. Tried this on two other kiosks, same result. Two others went through fine.

When I went to the crew window he didn't know what's up, suggested to drop by the NEXUS office when I head back to The States. Got processed fine entering Canada, no Immigration or Customs flags.

Any insight on what might be going on?

I was told the exact opposite at my interview... the agent always has discretionary power.

i think the above was more for airports?

my experience for land crossings in ON is that if you go through NEXUS and declare above the limit through the mailbox, you'll always get charged for it, often times more than what they would at the standard CBSA booth.

and most times, even for a daytrip, at a regular CBSA booth, they wave you through anyway… YMMV

I know it is in this thread somewhere, but I can't seem to come up with the right search terms to find it.

Are all the Nexus interview locations now equipped with the iris photo equipment? If not, is there a list of iris photo equipped locations somewhere?

Only the airport locations on the CA side have photo equipment.
