One of the rare times I have wrote to CATSA.... Lady operating the x-ray scanner went off on me for having my baggs too close together (her colleague pushed them together and into the machine) and that I should know better and that this lane was dumb and frequent travelers think their special and this is a waste of tax payer money and blah bah blah  Someone needed a Valium!

When she was done I pointed out that if I'm to space my bags appropriately, she should remove he jacket from the sign that explains this so I can read it, and allow me to remain on that side of the metal detector until my bags go through. Two other CATSA screeners worked to escalate the situation.

But generally, this is the only priority lane @ YYZ that seems to actually work. Interesting it's on the side that's right by the Plaza lounge entrance @:-)

Is it possible for a Canadian with outstanding warrants in the US to obtain a Nexus Card?

Welcome to FlyerTalk, but—really? A Canadian with outstanding warrants in the US should take care of those warrants before planning any travel to the US, let alone applying for a joint US-Canada trusted traveller programme.

Great experience at the YYZ T1 domestic security check today. Although it was midday and not busy, they had a dedicated line setup for Nexus card holders on the far-right (distinct from the other "priority"/wheelchair line). Only one other person in front of me, vs. 10 others in regular line. Plus, the people in the NEXUS line travel frequently and have the routine down pat. Final bonus: no body scanner in this lane!

The lady that runs the Nexus line in T1 domestic is great. They often run non-Nexus card holders through that line when it is busy but the lady controlling the line will take Nexus card holders to the front.

Last week they were doing a survey at T1 domestic for Nexus card holders. Survey dealt with the service received in the airports where the line is offered and whether is should be expanded to more airports plus land and water crossings.

YMMV - a lot!.

Check-in agent in BOS had to ask for a supervisor who opened a binder of ID cards and starting looking through for an example of a NEXUS card. The security ID checker waved me through to the metal detector, then while waiting for space to put my bag on the conveyor, asks "where yall from?" in a shocking display of humanity  I said Canada. She then proclaimed "CANADA!!" and asked to see my passport instad of my drivers licence  But I had so much fun as a kid growing up in the state good 'ol state of NEXUS under governor CBP

The TSA guy at security in ORD said flatly that "NEXUS... They went out of business long ago."

United GA in ORD to his co-worker: "How do I do a NEXUS?" His Sup: "None of that, demand a passport."

Airport police @ YUL when given BP and NEXUS on route to gate 50 from domestic area: "NON. Your travelll documents. your papers, sir. you need your passport and papers to show who you are."

TSA agent would not accept Ontario Drivers Licence for a domestic flight LAX to DAY. "We do not accept those cards here!" After a loud, testy exchange, requested to see the supervisor. The supervisor "Our people do not know Canadian provinces". Duh! The supervisor apologised.

Hehe, I remember about a week after I moved to Chicago for grad school, I went to buy a bottle of alcohol at the grocery store, and the cashier denied my Ontario DL as ID. I think they even tried to claim it wasn't a "government-issued" ID. The useless and lazy manager on duty stuck up for the employee, without allowing me to say a word. I called the store manager the next day, and was told they should've used the ID book they have in the store to see it was valid. That incident led that store to lose most of my business over the coming two years to its competitor. Too bad there's no way to do that with the TSA.

Read FT's Travel Safety/Security Forum, you'll see the TSA with a lot of problems on its hands right now. Ontario Driver's Licenses is the least of their concern right now.

But that is of little comfort when you are in the midst of trying to get through and have to deal with the insanity. Some memorable movie moments come to mind: Michael Douglas in Falling Down, Jack Nicolson etc.

Me too. I have recently used the card with the TSA at LAS (no problem), IAH (no problem), PHX (no problem), SEA (doc checker called over a supervisor on his own) and in TPA (required me to insist it was valid; supervisor went to back office to "verify" came out and apologized for the delay).

When asked by the tsa what it is I find that replying that the nexus card is "a WHTI compliant travel document" works great. The last thing that TSA person wants to do is admit that they don't know what WHTI is....

I had issues using NEXUS for a land crossing at Oungre, SK/Fortuna, ND. The DHS agent wanted to know if I happened to bring my passport. I think he knew that NEXUS was WHTI-compliant but he hadn't (evidently) seen enough of them to be comfortable. (Luckily I did have my passport.)

Coming back across into Canada at the same crossing, I handed my passport and NEXUS card together and had a very easy crossing.

Was this in a NEXUS lane or a regular lane?

Oungre, SK/Fortuna, ND is not a Nexus crossing, unless something has changed recently.

However, Nexus cards are now acceptable on their own for land or marine crossings (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexu...uveid-eng.html).

I've gotten "Who issues it?" from a bunch of TSA officers, when I say "DHS" that tends to get things moving.

To be clear the kids have to be enrolled in NEXUS as well.

I present my yellow card from the kiosk (and the wife's as well). Then I hand over the kids NEXUS cards and more often then not they ask for the adult cards as well. Since we are 4 or less people I only use one card for everyone.

I have experienced angry scowls from crew members in the line behind us. Mumblings of "you are in the wrong line" etc. Even the CBSA counter agent gotten angry about my using the crew/ special services line. The few times that has happened I politely ask that they contact a supervisor to explain to them the procedure for children without iris scans on file.

I tried this last week entering pre-clearance at YYZ and coming back from US through YYZ a week later. Two adults, two children (no iris scans) but everyone had NEXUS cards. I was definitively told both times not to bother going to the kiosk at all, just to enter the special services line with the whole family.

I'm also 2 adults and 2 kids (no iris). My usual routine is adults scan at kiosk and then we head to the crew/ special services line. Never had a problem like that.

I say homeland security. I even went so far once as to say "you see on your ID where is say homeland secuirty and on my id (i know it doesn't) where it says homeland security? Its the same homeland security."

CBSA /CBP is a different animal. They can demand a passport on a whim. TSA can't.

That is important to state: if you're travelling with kids who do not have the iris scans, you must go to the special services line to get your declaration card stamped. We (two adults) did our iris scans, and then skipped past the special services line with two kids in tow.

We were immediately chastized at the luggage hall exit and sent to secondary.

Of course, we didn't know better, and the agent at the special services line who let us pass should have known, but ....
