No Nexus at YVR???

There's a priority line through security for Nexus holders (and others), then after you clear security and head for CBP, the Nexus machines are there as you'd expect.

Were you following a "Connections" route? Last time I looked at YYZ, that route didn't offer Nexus - so I always just go to the main entrance. Could be same setup at YVR.

I went today to the Nexus office at YYZ to update my license expiry. Both the CBSA and CBP person standing there told me not to bother.

I find this odd. I'm going to try stopping in at another office next time I'm in the US.

He is referring to the priority security line for Nexus, not the actual Nexus machines. It's at a few airports in Canada, but is only offered for domestic/international flights NOT transborder.

The Nexus security line at transborder is usually closed whenever I go to the US. I believe it closes at 3PM during the week.

Yes, it was the connections route. I guess I should have exited and came back through security. There was additional security through connections as well.

A bit confused on my ability to use Nexus. I will be flying into YYZ from HKG, with an onward flight to the US. Seems like I could use it to clear customs in Canada before I re-check my bag for the next flight?

Oh, and I have not had the eyescan, it is not available anywhere near me, so I can still use the Nexus security line, since the kiosk requires the eyescan?

You can't use it to clear immigration/customs at an airport until you've had your irises scanned. There is an exception for those who, for medical reasons, cannot use the kiosks. If that were to apply to you, you would have a sticker affixed to the back of your Nexus card indicating your inability to use the kiosks. You would then be free to use either the crew or special services queue.

Sadly, you can't use it to get into Canada without the iris scan. But if you've got time, I would recommend stopping by the YYZ Nexus office after you clear customs, get the scan done quickly, and then you can use it for US pre-clearance.

NEXUS machines down at T1 domestic today

Peel police officer directing NEXUS card holders, crew, and diplomats to a separate line that was staffed by two CBP officers. Waited 5-10 minutes (regular line much longer). CBP officer looked at passport and NEXUS card, then asked whether my work authorization was still valid and whether I had updated my NEXUS profile with any changes to my details (I had) before waving me through.

Edit: I see now this was mentioned in another thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-c...-down-yyz.html

Be warned and allow extra time if you are travelling transborder through YYZ until the machines are working again.

There is a separate thread on this topic.

So it is not possible to go through the special Nexus line if you have your Nexus card but not the Iris Scan?

The general consensus here is no. I don't believe there is anything on the Nexus website about it, but various FTers have asked officers and a been told no.

So I forgot to ask this of the Nexus people today when I lucked out and got a walkin appointment while going through Montreal. Can I use the Nexus lines in Canada even though I havent received my card yet?

In NO uncertain terms: No card, no Nexus.
