Is it just Canadian NEXUS members who got an email? I, as an American NEXUS member, got nothing. (Just checked, the email was in my junk folder.)

If they replace the iris scanners with GE-like machines, does that mean I'm going to have to be fingerprinted again or will CBSA use CBP's database?

My wife and I are both Yanks and received the emails today. Dumb question, but did you have an iris scan?

OK finally I got mine and I am a US based nexus member.

I'm glad they're replacing the NEXUS machines. I only tried it once returning to Canada with my wife and two kids. After checking myself in I cancelled it and we went over to the regular line with the self-serve passport scanner. It took less time to get all four of us checked through that machine than it took to get just me done at the NEXUS machine. Those machines are a joke.

Canadian living in Ottawa. I applied mid Jan. and got the pre approval email exactly a month later (mid Feb.). Went to the online booking system and the very first available appt at the Ottawa Airport was for mid April, which I took right away.
So for now, the timelines are: A month for initial processing, 2 months for an available appt at this location. We'll see how long after the interview.
Thanks to everyone on here for posting your experiences.

I got the email last week (Canadian NEXUS user).

I've always had trouble with the NEXUS kiosks too but it might be my inexperience with them. I've only used them about three or four times since I got NEXUS. Most of my US flights are ex-YQR so I use GlobalEntry at the connecting airport. Never a problem with those kiosks...

NEXUS is a matter of trial and error and patience and confidence. I can't hear the instructions and those arrows are meaningless to me. They are based on a nonstandard symbolism that is not at all intuitive. But I have now got down to the right distance to stand, remove the glasses, open eyes wide, and try to make the diamonds overlap almost cross-eyed with a thousand-yard stare, and the dialogue monitor says something like "thank you" and I deduce that it's read me. I do hope they improve on them somewhat. CBP has our fingerprints though and not CBSA so not sure CBSA can use GE/finger machines. Will be interesting to see.

Flyquiet, I've read a lot of your complaints about the NEXUS machines, and for your sake I hope they do improve them for those with hearing difficulties. Some kind of visual message between the two eyeball cameras may do the trick.

It might be too little too late, but I wonder if a physical letter addressing your concerns to NEXUS explaining this might help. They didn't go in to any real detail on the new machines so maybe the verdict isn't in yet.

If they do offer a finger print recognition on the newer machines maybe they'll run the two simultaneously to give people a chance to drop in and get a scan done.

Replacing a damaged Nexus card

Posting my recent experience here as I couldn't find much in the way of details on my specific circumstances.

My card was physically damaged in some way that the chip no longer worked. While I used it at land crossing and in airports, it's an inconvenience at airports that have automated security entrance gates requiring the Nexus chip (not swipe), and at land border crossings where it doesn't register.

I chose the Request Replacement card option from GOES, and essentially had to complete a new application, including additional details that were not asked for on my original application (i.e. height, etc.) and update to current of employment history, countries visited etc.

It took approximately a month for me to receive the Conditional Approval and notification to schedule an interview.

I was lucky enough to get a late March interview at YVR.

However, I called and asked if I could do a "drop in", and after trading a couple of voicemails, I went to YVR today.

I was placed on the "walk in" list (NOT for new applicants FYI), and waited less than 30 minutes. I only saw the US side this time, and he reviewed my answers, rechecked my passport and DL, and sent me on my way with an approval after about ten minutes. It was not necessary to have a new photo, iris scan or fingerprints taken.

He advised I should receive the new card in 7-10 business days and will continue to have the same expiry date as my current one. Use existing card until new one arrives, and destroy old one when new one arrives.

Hope that is helpful!

Two of us renewing NEXUS. I have an appointment for tomorrow here in YYC. The other person only in July (!!)... Wondering - have any of you been successful at getting two people done in one interview?
Thanks!

Data point:

Application in/$$$ paid on 2/9. Still "Pending Review"

I was hoping to clear the review pretty quickly. No legal issues and already an Enhanced Drivers License holder. We'll see...

That is a really recent submission. Most reviews take 4-6 weeks and some have posted slower processing lately.
There are two countries involved, one of which has no duty to give a hoot about your EDL.

I really wasn't sure what to expect. It seems like they run anywhere from a week to 6 weeks. Hopefully it'll be sooner vs. later.

Anyone have an idea of how far out the interviews are in Seattle once we are approved?

PVDtoDEL Feb 25, 2014 1:59 pm

It took 7.5 weeks for my application to be processed last September.

As for EDL, all it does is prove citizenship. No other advantages in the Nexus Application Process.

I admit I have not read every post, but I have NEVER seen a new application conditionally approved in a week. Most 4 weeks or more. Some much longer.
Have you searched the thread regarding SEA wait times? I have seen some posts for that station.
