Does anyone have any experience re-enrolling in Nexus one it's been confiscated? A co-worker of mine had it taken away by the CBP after a "misunderstanding" over the $10k cash limit.

Do bank drafts of over $10,000 need to be declared when using NEXUS or Global Entry kiosks? Or does that only apply to cash?
It's a bank draft to pay for my tuition at a university in the States. |

Bank draft is money. Need to declare. Download and complete the FinCEN 105 form to speed up the process.
So, declare the draft and show it to the agents. No forms needed. |
So are endorsed cheques (checks) by the way.

The Americans insist on the visit
In the past, I've always been told by the Canadian agents that they require you to bring a new passport into a Nexus office. So I've always updated GOES as soon as I get a renewed passport, and then bring it into the office the next time I'm near one. Figure that it can't hurt. However, the update to the guide noting you can update online has to be fairly recent. It used to specify an office visit for passport updates. I don't see a revision date on the PDF version, but the web page version indicates the last update was in Sept. |
Can we switch our application?
As mentioned in the last page of this thread, we finally applied for Nexus, but are now perhaps regretting it, to some degree. We are a family of four, and while the prospect of spending $100 all-in for Nexus and GE sounded very attractive (vs $400 to get GE), the idea of waiting 6 weeks for conditional approval and then getting an interview appt in June or July isn't at all attractive. Especially given our May travel dates.
Which begs the question: if we have submitted and paid for our Nexus application, is there a way to switch our application to GE only and submit for our interview at PDX? Yes, we would have to pay an additional $200, but for the convenience, we're thinking it's worth it. Is it possible? |

Thanks PVDtoDEL!
To your knowledge, is this done through the GOES website (and will that option be readily intuitive), or do I have to call someone at one of the NEXUS centers? |
Bear in mind that you can very often grab an interview date in June/July when you get your conditional approval, and watch the site like a hawk to grab cancellations when they come up and get a much earlier interview. You have to have instant reaction time, but I moved my daughter's appointment to the very next day when a 5-person family cancelled appointments on a long weekend. Something like that could help you out a lot.

So - a hypothetical timeline might be this: Dec 29 - applied Feb 9 - conditional approval (est @ 6 weeks) Jun/July - proposed interview slot Let's say we get an interview slot say in mid-Feb - the 19th. How long from the 19th to the time we get our cards. And, do we then, at that point go into the GOES website and add-on GE, or do we not have to do anything to enjoy GE benefits? |
I had it open on a second screen, and refreshed maybe every few minutes to keep the session from timing out. Focus on the two parents, and ask nicely to bring the kids in at the same time as the parents.
In my experience, getting an interview slot within 4 weeks of conditional approval is 100%, there are a lot of cancellations |
