YYZ US Nexus kiosks going away! Make sure you have GE.

Today at YYZ T1, I was using the NEXUS machine when a CBP officer pulled me aside to advise that the four nexus machines are being retired, and Global Entry will be the only option. (With, I think, some more GE machines.) He was making sure people were registered for GE - which I was - and I think he was setting people up on the spot.

As far as I know the NEXUS machines are remaining on the Canadian entry side downstairs. But it'll be Global Entry in the US departures area soon.

Upon your arrival to YVR you'll have to use the regular lines. The NEXUS kiosks identify you solely from your iris.

Like flyquiet said you can get it done without an appointment while you're there. That way next time you'll be able to use NEXUS going in to Canada.

I presume you enrolled in GE as well when you got Nexus. If so, you should be able to use the global entry kiosks. They confirm your identity from your fingerprints.

There is no extra step to enroll for GE. When you get NEXUS, you automatically have GE.

I don't think that is quite correct. At my NEXUS interview, they asked if I wanted GE. They said I was eligible, but it seemed that they had to do something extra to activate it.

I seem to have GE automoatically when I got Nexus about 2 years back. Used both machines at different times with no problem. Fingerprint reader seems to be faster for me as I wear glasses.

Since the GE kiosks cannot be used to enter Canada, andrewhick52 will have to use the regular line when arriving at YVR.

Yes, this.

Some agents might just give it to you without asking, but at a technical level, they are different programs and it is not automatic in the system.

I think there may even be an extra passport scan required for GE, but my memory of the interview is fading.

I interviewed on Nov 1, received card Nov 7. They said 7-10 business days, and that is 3 business days, not counting the day of interview and the day of mail delivery.

Thanks for the answers guys.

I think it also depend on where in north america you live. Logically the eastern side will get it faster than the western !

I am not sure what logic you are applying.

I live in Vancouver, BC and every piece of mail received has been from the Blaine,WA Nexus office.

Ok my bad then you are probably right.
I thought that all mails, messages etc.. was coming from Vermont so being in western Canada will add more delays compare to the eastern part.

Sorry I misread it...I thought he was flying from YVR to the states. At preclearance there should be GE machines for your return trip. I've never flown through the airport, so I can't verify that directly.

As to the other question, I got my Nexus card about 7 or 8 days after the interview. I had gotten the approval notification change in status in GOES before I even left the airport.
