Sorry I misread it...I thought he was flying from YVR to the states. At preclearance there should be GE machines for your return trip. I've never flown through the airport, so I can't verify that directly.
As to the other question, I got my Nexus card about 7 or 8 days after the interview. I had gotten the approval notification change in status in GOES before I even left the airport. |
Hello all,
Sorry I'm not able to do a search as this tablet won't let me type in the box. I have a quick question about using NEXUS and visiting the duty free shop.. Am I allowed to use the lane if I stop there? We're currently on our way to Highgate Springs and won't be using NEXUS to enter the US, so as an alternative are we allowed to purchase going in if ultimately I'll be going back to Canada in a few days? Any info you guys might have in the next few hours would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

Seems as good a time as any to ask: what if you are under your personal limit?
I walked back across the border from Tijuana last week carrying one 750mL bottle of wine I had purchased. Obviously it was visible to the agent checking my passport, since it was literally the only thing I had in my hands (didn't bring a backpack or anything), and I sort of held it up with a questioning look and he just waved me out the exit. If I had a backpack or were driving across the border or it otherwise weren't obvious, do I need to mention any alcohol in my possession if it is under my personal exemption? (Same thing bringing back wine from, say, Australia in checked luggage.) I have not been able to find the answer to this anywhere on the CBP website. The closest I have come is a requirement (from a CBP press release) to declare everything purchased abroad: (http://www.cbp.gov/archived/xp/cgov/...010_6.xml.html) Driving (or walking) across the border, this is probably a non-issue, as simply informing the officer "I have one bottle of wine" will likely result in them just waving you on, but coming through customs in an airport, choosing the "nothing to declare" versus the declaring line can be a significant difference in time. I just don't want to lose NEXUS by choosing "nothing to declare" and then having it be a problem if they find it. Anyone? When going through US Pre Clearance in Canada am I required (should I) declare the one bottle of alcohol (750ml/40%) that I have in my suitcase? |

And will use nexus on the way back too. |

Yes, you can do this. I have purchased liquor going into the US to bring back to Canada. So long as you are under your limit. If you are over, you can print a form from the website, declare your overage, add your CC and hand to the official. They will bill your card later.

I was wondering the same thing. If entering the USA by air do I have to declare the 750ml bottle of rum I have in my suitcase? Its within my personal exemption.

has anyone been taken in for secondary inspection from the nexus lane and have them say the supervisor will decide on whether or not to revoke your nexus?

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publicati...sf5095-eng.pdf The fundamental question, however, which is not answered clearly anywhere that I can see, is whether I am required to declare an amount of alcohol under my personal exemption limit. In other words, is it exempt from needing to be declared? Or do I still need to declare it but it is simply exempt from duty? |

I understand that is the procedure if I have goods to declare.

The latter is the way I took it as the wording to me suggests you must declare all goods purchased abroad for personal use and not just items that fall beyond your exemption.

going through nexus lane and had commercial goods, pulled in for secondary inspection. told me supervisor will decide on whether or not I keep my nexus card. This was almost 2 months ago now. Last time I went to the states I went through the regular line up and they asked me where my nexus card.
But, if I'm understanding this correctly, they didn't tell you whether they were or weren't revoking it. Did they keep your card at that time? Is that why you didn't have it for the US trip you reference above? |
