Just had my appointment, 20 minutes IN and OUT... only 2 others in the waiting area at YYZ.
A few things: - Definitely no walk ins for full appointments - one Joe Kickass tried to bully his way into an appointment, but was summarily shot down by the US officer - she told him he was SOL and if he wanted to be denied from the program, he should stick around longer :) - I asked twice, to be sure, and when travelling with a child (no iris scan) both parents, and child, should go to the special services desk. There was some talk in this thread that the parents should do iris, and then go to the booth with their child, but both the Canada and US agents said that is incorrect. - Make sure you ask for Global Entry on the US side - they almost didn't add it until I asked. Ahh.... I feel complete now that I have my Nexus back! |

I am a NEXUS cardholder in good standing. I flew from NRT to SFO yesterday. Went to the Global Entry kiosk on arrival, scanned the passport, fingerprint, photo, etc...kiosk spat out a card listing my passport info (no usual US Customs logo on the card though). There was nothing on the card that said it wasn't valid or to see an officer. Nothing else came out. I took the card to exit and was told that wasn't the correct card. Went to the back of the line to see an officer. When I finally saw an officer, he scanned my passport and looked puzzled as it appeared I had already cleared customs. I explained what happened, he didn't know why, but stamped my declaration card anyways which got me through exit.
Back home, I checked my GOES account and found that as a NEXUS member, I was automatically a Global Entry member also...so it seems I should've been able to use Global Entry at SFO. Has anyone else encountered this situation and do you know why the kiosk spat out that generic card? Or was this card good enough to exit? So for future reference, I was told to ask for a supervisor if the exit agent denies exit and they can call the GE office to confirm. |
Sorry I post on this thread so much, lol.
This might be over kill, but do openings in availability show up right away on GOES? I spent a long time clicking to August, back to July, then to August, back to July, etc etc. My thinking is if someone cancels I would see it almost immediately in the month view. The wait time for YYZ is insane. |

The wait time for YYZ is insane. I was approved July 10 and logged in around 6 pm to schedule interview Between 6-9pm I see as early as July 22 (but I'm away), July 29, and August 2X... I just clicked [Back] [Next] button on the screen with below text, without using the Monthly view. You'd see the date/time change often The first available appointment in the enrollment center Toronto Enrollment Center you selected is: Date:2012-10-25, Start Time:1200, End Time:1220 Press the Next button to continue with this enrollment center. Then ever since, it only shows late October 22-24 now |
So my timeline is as follows:
Mine: Applied on GOES May 24th, 2012 Conditional approval July 12th, 2012 Appointment at YYZ July 25th, 2012 Wife's: Applied on GOES May 25th, 2012 Conditional approval July 12th, 2012 Appointment at YYZ July 27th, 2012 About 9 weeks for both. Would have liked to get back to back appointments, but I think I can't complain. Considering the typical delay in getting an appointment at that location, I'll pay for parking and drive there twice if it means not waiting until October! |
My spot just opened up 7/29 since I JUST saw a spot open on 7/14 (this Saturday, 4 days after my approval)
Date:2012-07-29, Start Time:1320, End Time:1340 |

I'm insanely jealous you were able to score such an appointment. Not only at a very busy center, but so soon after, AND on a weekend. I should have waited!
I just checked NOW, and 7/22 (Sunday) is open also @ YYZ |
lol. I saw the 22nd appointment, but I'm going to be out of town that day, sadly.
I keep checking, but I think I'll likely keep my 25th one. Probably go over around noon and just wait. If they can take me early, great. If not, I'll just wait patiently for my turn. |
Applied: May 19
Conditional Approval: July 7 Approved @ YYZ: July 11 |
Applied on GOES May 11th, 2012
Conditional approval July 1st, 2012 Appointment at YYZ July 10th, 2012 Cant wait to get my card! |
Applied on GOES May 23, 2012
Conditional approval July 10, 2012 Appointment at YYZ July 14, 2012 I arrived @ 3:40 today for my 4 pm appointment Waited only 5-10 minutes, with about 3~4 people ahead of me Finished Canadian NEXUS by 4 pm, and US side by 4:10 pm I was shocked to finish in 30 minutes, wow... and US GE is effectively immediately while NEXUS can arrive in "2 weeks official time" The NEXUS demo kiosk was out of service though, ha For anyone interested, NEXUS office is between Post G&H inside, or H18 counter exactly I happend to walk past it, asked an officer walking by, simply followed him in and turned out he interviewed me also ^_^ Very nice officers on both sides |
Thanks for the tip, Jerry!
I was wondering where exactly it was inside. I'm still not sure where it is in relation to anything else, but I'm sure I'll be able to find post G & H once I'm inside. Because I'll be arriving 2 1/2 hrs before my appointment, I'm sure I'll be able to find it before I need to :P I hope the NEXUS demo kiosk is working by next week. Though it's not possible because I won't have my card, I'm half tempted to buy a flight the day of just to try it out, lol. Out of curiosity, which lot did you park in when you went? I was thinking of parking at the farthest satellite lot and taking the Link train (cheaper max rate). If you parked in that lot, was the parking structure to the north done? Thanks in advance! |
I forgot to ask about GE when I was in YVR a couple of months ago. I've had my nexus card for a bit over a year and did get the email about being granted GE access. I had my retina scanned, finger prints done, etc. Do I still have to do anything extra?
I'll be returning from HKG through SFO in November and would like to use the GE system then. I DO have a couple of opportunities to look into this, one in October while I'm in YHZ and again on my way out to HKG in November in YVR. Do I need to do anything or am I ready to go? Thx |
