in G/E at YYZ? My GOES profile does not provide me with the option to enroll in G/E. It's far from being a user-friendly or intuitive web-site. I didn't notice my note at first. After you log in, there will be a note at the bottom of your main page in coloured font (red or orange, if I recall). It will either say "you're eligible to use GE" or "we need to get your fingerprints to be able to use GE". If it's the latter, you can just stop by a NEXUS center without an appointment and ask to have the US CBP officer take your fingerprints. Most NEXUS members are already able to use GE, but just don't realize it. There is no separate application process. The only exception would be if they didn't scan your fingerprints when you did your first NEXUS application, but odds are they have them. |
When I did the interview at YYZ, I put my fingers on a small glass plate scanner. I'd had fingerprints taken years ago by RCMP (for military security clearance, not criminal reasons!) and it involved messy black ink, so if they had not said "we're going to take your fingerprints for GE now", I don't think I would even have given a second thought and realized that I was doing the GE fingerprinting process.

I visited a NEXUS office in Seattle and he had me try the kiosk and the same message appeared. He then went to a computer and he confirmed that my fingerprints were already in the system and he simply had to swipe my passport and link it to my account which he did. He then took me back to the kiosk and it worked perfectly. I have no idea how my passport was not linked but he knew right away what the issue was and said he has had to do this a few times. :) |
some of you may have noticed in the NEXUS news that renewals "may" not even require an interview now. It seems if you meet some clean criteria this will be the case. In any event, remember in Canada, you shouldn't need to schedule an interview, just drop in or renew the easy way without any interview if I am reading the news correctly^

Actually this is not the only exception. I had my fingerprints on file and I received the notice in GOES saying I was now able to use GE. The first time I tried it I was informed on the KIOSK that my passport was not registered with GE.

The alleged dual nationality plus the cars thing which the agents said they don't give a darn about apparently caused my "come'n'see us" call. |

That's what I thought but because the GOES system had, sometime between 2008 and now, decided that my nationality was both Canadian and Mexican  I needed to have the interview; even after I told them I don't even go shopping there any more - too dangerous. BTW best Mexican shopping is in San Ysidro, CA: 90% of the clientele are Mexicans.

I have a US domestic "mileage run" this weekend with United, so I made sure to do everything necessary to sign up for PreCheck.
I checked in, printed my boarding passes, and using information available online, determined that I had been selected! Got to the airport, and found out the PreCheck line had been closed for several hours. A little disappointing because I wanted to try it, but the normal line was pretty short too. |

I have Canadian/Mexican double nationality and have never been treated differently by either CBSA or CBP as far as NEXUS is concerned.
My wife now wants to feed me burritos and huevos rancheros... |
I read some where that the Canadian government going to expand the nexus entry into Canada for other countries giving Canadians a similar reciprocal benefit @:-)

Summary: it's really a varied experience... the definition of YMMV. :) Crossed from Canada just to go to a post office and crossing back into Canada got fully grilled, though using Nexus: including who was I visiting, how did I know them, exactly what was I going to be doing in my 4 days in Canada??? Geez. As to the last one all I could say on the spur of the moment was "um, visiting with friends". Further proof that YMMV, it is dependent on the individual agents more than anything I can see! |

Which would be the logical thing to do, now that there are a couple of countries going that way with Global Entry. I know of the Netherlands, South Korea, Qatar and Germany (pilot phase) and there may be others.

My *guess* this is somewhat contingent on biometric passports, which we are (soon) to have.
Any e-passport should be possible with this. However, what would be nice, if you pardon the slightly off topic rant is we need to get on the Canadian government to allow Canadians to apply for the APEC Business Travelers Card. It is just a joke that we allow other countries to use the crew lanes for this card but we cannot enjoy the benefits. |

My hope is that when we get ePassports in July 2013, this will be extended to Canadians. +1 on the APEC card. |
