I used GE at YYZ for US pre clearance. Easier for me than the iris thing.
Foodwise, I was told in my indoctrination that even edible food-like substances like gummy worms were "food" and absolutely declare it, and that the officer would determine whether it required more inspection or how intensive any secondary would be. All the same, I think I am going to change my practices from bringing snacks in my suitcase to buying snacks on arrival for the most part! Next trip I will be travelling with non-Nexus spouse, so will let him carry the snacks! As for notifying Nexus of new passports, I have not picked up any difference of opinion on the board on this matter. It was pretty much Rule #1 emphasized in my indoctrination interview: immediately bring a new passport to the Nexus office to have the record updated. It cannot be done on GOES, but you do not need an appointment, just go in. |
There have been different opinions on this board as to whether or not it is necessary to notify Nexus about the new passport. |

I would not consider this a matter of opinion. The NEXUS process will work, but if you get caught with an expired passport there is likely to be trouble. Best to stop by an enrollment centre to update the info, or at least fax in the new passport page to the enrollment centre where you last interviewed.
My vehicle registration expired last month. Faxed it to the Champlain enrollment centre on a monday morning and it was updated on GOES before the end of the day. |
Flew in to YTZ last night, and was looking forward to using NEXUS by air for the first time. Turns out I had left my NEXUS card in the US though, so couldn't risk being flagged and having been asked to present my card. As it turns out, our flight was delayed so long and was the last flight to come in for the night that we were through customers in about 2 minutes anyway.
Next time perhaps! |
Okay I tried searching through this thread but I didn't see this asked, so I'm guessing I know the answer, but I want to make sure..
If I fly in to EWR and meet up with the in laws who have my NEXUS card, can I use Global Entry without the card? I'm guessing I can, but would like to be sure. Obviously I will need to get it from them before returning to Canada. Just trying to figure out if I should have them mail our cards back to us, or if I should just get it from them in February when we see them again. |

What the OP won't be able to do is use the expedited security line in Canada - you need to show them the card for that. |

It doesn't really matter where the OP is flying from. If they are good to go for GE, they can use GE - no card required. Of course, there must be GE machines to use, but I think all pre-clearance airports in Canada have them now.

I was in YYZ last night, and after US preclearance, a foreign couple dropped off their bags, and then went to the NEXUS security line. I'm not sure they spoke English. The guy kept asking if they had a NEXUS card. They proceeded to dump all their documents on the counter and slowly show him every single one, before he finally pointed them to another line.

It looks like it doesn't actually matter, as others have pointed out, but I will be flying YTZ-EWR. No US pre-clearance from Billy Bishop.

I updated my new passport on GOES and have traveled multiple times and have never had a problem. I know it worked as my old passport expired months ago.
"For address changes only, NEXUS members can access GOES. ... You must visit an Enrolment Centre at once if one of the following applies:

Using nexus at pre clearance lines in US domestic
You can use the Nexus cards at the TSA pre screening lines at select US airports for US domestic flights and avoid the shoe/laptop removal plus these lines have fewer people. Now hope that the TSA folks are trained to know what nexus is.
