I have the Nexus card and have used it at airports. If I want to drive into the USA, do I need to have my car (and/or motorcycle) registered with them to use the Nexus lanes?

No. But all passengers in the car must have valid NEXUS memberships.

Thanks for the info.

Long shot but thought I would ask all the same. Nexus interview scheduled for later in January but my passport is away getting a visa added and it doesn't look like I have a hope of getting it back in time. I've already rescheduled my interview a bunch of times given that I've been traveling so much.

Any chance I can complete the Nexus interview without my passport? The application letter says:

Proof of citizenship document(s) as identified on your application (e.g. birth certificate, citizenship certificate or passport). If you have a passport or if a passport is required for future travel, please bring the document to the interview so that the information can be added to your file.; and
Which makes me wonder if they can successfully conduct the interview and I can drop by a Nexus office to have my passport added at a later date (like when you get a new passport, etc.).

+1; if you even approach the lane and have a non-NEXUS member in the car, it's an automatic loss of your NEXUS card.

If you take a normal lane, you can use your NEXUS card just like it was a passport, although they can always ask you to produce your passport as well.

The Nexus card is a WHTI-compliant document when crossing into the US at a land border, so no passport is required. It works the same way when entering Canada, but no passport is required to enter Canada, only adequate proof of citizenship.

Just a reminder to everyone to keep your Nexus info up to date. Mrs. Sopwith renewed her passport a couple of months ago and forgot to update Nexus. When we went through yesterday, we both got hauled into secondary, bag search, multiple scolding, etc. Told not to use Nexus again until it is updated, which apparently requires a visit to the Nexus office.

You can update your passport info online with GOES

So if I update my GOES account with my new passport information and new address, no need to go into NEXUS office, correct?

Too many conflicting answers from officers themselves that I always do both. I always update GOES as soon as I receive the new passport, then visit the Nexus office so they can take a copy as soon as I am on the Canadian side so they can have a copy. Officially, unless wording has changed in the Nexus guide, it does say you must update at an office.

Of note - yes, completely a violation of Nexus policy not to update passport info and while most reports here have mentioned warnings, crossing without updating the info. can result in the loss of Nexus.

Just got NEXUS last month and have used it once in the car so far.

Anyone know if I can use the NEXUS lane while on my bicycle? Crossing by bicycle usually means standing in line inside, behind all the drivers who have been called in for secondary inspection.

I mentioned that to the CBP guy and he said it had to be done at the office. Maybe because Mrs. S had tried to go through with out of date info?

Inconsistency is the constant with such things I have found. In this case, I would go to the office after updating it in GOES. Why play with fire on this?

My understanding was, with a new passport, you have to go into an office so they can (at least) put that 'CBP' sticker on it.

I didn't, either. No issues with GE even without the sticker.
