My understanding was, with a new passport, you have to go into an office so they can (at least) put that 'CBP' sticker on it.

What sticker? I don't have one now.

No sticker required. I just used GE from yyz to las on NYE. Worked like a charm and I didn't have anything other than my Nexus card with me.

I don't know what this sticker business is about throughout this really, really long thread.

I have never received any sort of sticker and have used NEXUS for land crossings, GE for entering the USA from another country other than Canada, and at all transborder preclearance zones at YYZ, YYC, YEG, YOW, YUL, and YYZ. No mention of any sticker on my NEXUS card, on my passport, or anything else. Nada. Zilch.

The sticker was placed on your passport (mine is on the inside back cover) to indicate you were a member of GE. It has the letters CBP on it. The idea, I believe, was a quick visual way to identify yourself as a member of the program to line checkers (etc.)

Up-thread, it was noted that for a time ORD was a bit anal about needing the sticker to use the GE machines. Of course, the only consistency in this practice was inconsistency.

I got my sticker in November 2011 at SFO, when I registered for GE.

For those who want to know what the sticker looks like:

My wife and I both received stickers in our passports when we went in August, but I believe shortly after that they stopped putting stickers on them.

I have a sticker on the exterior of my passport, and it sure came in handy because the first 3 times I tried to use GE, it wouldn't work. I went back each time and was told everything was fine. I finally asked them if they had my fingerprints on file and they didn't which was the problem, so got that taken care of.

When I got a new passport in June, I renewed my Nexus and I also made sure GE had my new passport information. You guessed it, first time I tried to use it, it said my passport wasn't registered.

How did you get them to register your passport? When my wife got her new passport and we visited the NEXUS office at YYZ, the Canadian agent did some stuff on the computer and said she was good to go. When I asked if this passport was set up for GE, she said "she has a NEXUS card". I'm not wondering if we should have asked to see a US agent as well.

Really hope we don't have any problems using GE at EWR next month..

No, it was placed on YOUR passport :p

I can assure you that I do not, and have never had a sticker on my passport, and yet it is definitely registered for GE.

I may go ask the next time I'm near an enrollment center during business hours, but this whole sticker business is very inconsistent. Not everyone is given one, and not everyone checks if it's there.

I got the sticker at YYZ November 1, 2012. Exactly the appearance and position illustrated above.

FWIW

1) i (or anyone in my direct family) have never had a sticker and have used GE many times with no issues......so it is clearly a hit or miss whether you get one but in the end not necessary

2) two family members recently got new passports and we updated both through GOES (did not go in to an office). We have since traveled both Can-Us and US-Can with no issue using nexus card

Uhh...ID alone isn't enough to get you in. Your boarding pass has to say you're eligible, which means you need to have the information entered on the airline's website.

Correct and a MAJOR difference vs security lane access points at Canadian airports.

That is why I said why the only constant with this is the inconsistency. Christ.

I think the confusion over this is due to GOES granting existing Nexus members GE rights even though we didn't specifically apply for them.

In the past, a friend of mine who had Nexus and was at a US airport on the East Coast wanted to use Nexus and it was either not available or didn't exist. Instead, she went into US Immigration (I believe) and completed GE application using her Nexus card and was granted it immediately and left with a sticker on her passport. She then proceeded to use GE. That's how I recall it but it may have differed.

Bottom line is that the after the fact addition of GE to our Nexus status has meant no sticker gets automatically applied to the passport.

Clear as mud - right?

My sticker is on the outside back cover.

I got mine at my Port Huron, MI interview. August 2012. The officer there noticed my passport was going to need to be renewed soon and advised me to go into an office when I got it to have the sticker added.

Same here. I don't see why an office visit is needed if you are able to enter the new data into GOES.

In the alternative, since there is no receipt issued to you if you "update" your passport in person, how could you prove that you did follow the update in person "rule".
