She did small chat while doing her job and even shared some of her trip experiences ( hint, hint to US customs agents ).

She mentioned that because we were Nexus users the procedure indicates they must go through everything. We did not go over our allowance and also we kept all receipts (well, most). That helped a lot.

Wow, that's a seriously long time. I've been through one secondary (in YEG) where they wanted to do a full search. We had three checked bags (did a ton of shopping) and three carryons, and the full search of all bags, including repacking after they removed everything, took 15 minutes.

Every other secondary has been on more than 5 minutes.

Well, that information is sort of right. You have to click on a link that says something like "reschedule appointment", at which point, you select location and it retrieves the first-available date again. If the date is no good you can simply back out of the transaction, i.e., cancel the reschedule, and confirm (the original date).

The first time I did it, I was anxious because I worried it would throw my interview date back into the pool (either intentionally or as a bug) and then I would be stuck with an even later date, but when I didn't find the available date an improvement, I still had my original date. I ended up just keeping the original date. It was five or six weeks, and I missed out on using Nexus for three round trip flights, but looking back, it was less hectic the way it worked out.

I don't really understand why GE costs more than NEXUS+GE though.
Wasn't Canpass $50/yr while Nexus was $50/5yr? Presumably the former also took less research since it only got you into Canada.

This is real nitpicky, but you don't actually need to back out/cancel/confirm the original appointment. Rather, if you don't explicitly confirm a new appointment time, you'll still have the original one--even if you just quit your browser. Still, I always checked my appointment time afterward to be sure!

But the main point about not needing to cancel your original appointment in order to see availability is correct.

I have been a bit of a pest to the groups involved in the APEC Travelers card.

I finally received an email with a bit of good news:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Canada’s ABTC program. As was mentioned below, Canada continues to be a transitional member of the ABTC. As such, the CBSA is presently developing a pilot that will allow Canadian citizens to apply for the APEC Business Travel Card, which will offer them access to special service lanes when travelling to APEC economies, similar to what Canada presently offers foreign ABTC members when they travel to Canada.

Canadian ABTC members will still be required to provide all necessary documentation, such as passport and visas if required, when travelling to other APEC economies. Similarly, foreign ABTC members will still be required to provide all necessary documentation when travelling to Canada.

Details of the Canadian ABTC pilot are being finalized but it is anticipated that Canada will announce an implementation date in the New Year. Once announced, this information will be made available on the CBSA website.

Thank you for your continued interest in Canada’s participation in the APEC Business Travel Card scheme.

Stupid question, but when did they open a Nexus lane at Lansdowne/Alex Bay? Earliest mention here is Feb/12, though I found references online to the Lansdowne enrollment centre opening in Dec/09. I went looking and it's listed on Nexus.gc.ca as "Northern Ontario/Michigan" which of course it isn't on either side of the border. I haven't crossed there in years, and remember it being a fairly tight crossing because it's a bridge so more limited than a land crossing like Lacolle/Champlain. Google satellite photo shows it's 2 lanes approaching (same as A15/I87 obviously) but that it widens relatively close to inspection, so it would seem easy to get stuck in a crowd waiting to get to the Nexus lane. I realize the Nexus lanes are only open 4hr/day (morning and evening rush hours).

Thanks!

I'm a regular Lansdowne crosser (the only one here that I have seen, at least regularly). I didn't pay a huge amount of attention but the Nexus lanes have not been there too much more than a year I think. They are still ironing the "bugs" on the Canadian side. That means: they don't always do the hours they say and often the huge sign board above the booths says "Nexus Lane 6" when actually it is not really open for Nexus, but open mainly for trucks, though anyone can use it (when the light is green, red light means Nexus users only... counter-intuitive?! I think so! Most border agents agree!). They told me verbally that trucks have priority in that lane, but there is zero signage to that effect.

There are 7 lanes into Canada, one for Nexus, not all always open. Same for the US, I think. YES it is easy to get stuck in a crowd, espec into USA in the summer! (Hence I cross via Wolfe Island & Cape Vincent ferry, which hopefully will be up and running again in April!)

The Canadian lane is open I think [this message disappeared here though it was on the original post... apologies but I certainly did not delete all the info I had written!]

Candian entry Nexus is supposed to be open 6-8a, and 4-6p. (Might be M-F only? Forget...)
HOWEVER US entry is open all day: 7a-5p M-F and Sat 10-2. They occasionally close the US Nexus entry randomly (I think for agent breaks and when it's just not busy enough to bother, though that's not always a criteria).

YES there is a big backup in summer due to 2 lanes into 7+/- espec entering from Canada to US. That's why in summer I use the Wolfe Island & Cape Vincent ferry route (which will hopefully run again from April or so!).

[Again sorry for the missing info, the message might have had more, but now I can't remember if there was anything else.]

Family of 4 application - Did I do it right?

I just want to check if I did the right thing. I have 2 kids: 8 and 6. My husband, me and kids each have our own GOES User ID. And I used each ID to submit each of the 4 applications.

They are still pending review. Do you know if they will recognize it as a group and allow me to schedule 1 meeting instead of 4 meetings for all of us after our requests are conditionally approved? How is interview scheduling work for family?

Anyone know what is the latest Review time and Ontario interview waiting time these days? Want to see if I will likely get the Nexus cards by mid March, in time for March break.

Thanks everyone!

It's the same situation in Champlain NY. The actual entrance to the NEXUS lane entering the US is about 100 metres before the inspection booth meaning that if the quoted wait time is >60 minutes you're going to have to wait at least 45 minutes just to get the the entrance.

And to make matters worse this seems to be an irreversible situations because the two A-15 lanes leading to the crossing are jammed between the CBSA building, which for some crazy reason is built in the middle of the road, and the Duty-Free store meaning that a new approach configuration would require the demolition of one of these two buildings.

Going back to Canada NEXUS users get to use the left shoulder of I-89 from about 800m before the inspection booths. Last thanksgiving weekend, CBSA quoted wait was 2.5 hours, actual NEXUS wait was about 15-20 minutes.

Hello,

I applied for a Nexus pass through the mail. I'm scheduled for an interview in Feburary.

I'm supposed to take a "conditional approval notification letter" from the GOES website to the interview. There was no such letter on the GOES website. But it did allow me to schedule an interview and gave me an i.d. number.

Is this conditional approval notification letter required with a mail in application? Or am I missing something?

Luckily in the Niagara peninsula we have 3 choices. The problem with 2 of them is that you have to go across the bridge along with your 2000 BFFs before you get a chance to peel away to the NEXUS lane.

No matter what, I take the Whirlpool crossing: it may add some time to my getting in to the US (about 15 minutes before I'm back on I-90 / I-290 / I-190) but at least I know how much time it's going to take out of my scheduled route. Not like the Peace Bridge or Q-L where you could be hung up for zero time or 45+ minutes. I like to be sure I can meet my US clients at the time I promised.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe it does. You may have some luck getting say you and one of your kids on the same day, and maybe your husband and your other kid can get in an another day. I think some people have had luck with having both people seen sequentially on the same day even if the interviews are at different times of the day.

Alternatively, you'll have to pick one of the days a while in to the future for 4 slots.

Our situation was a bit simpler in that we only needed two slots back-to-back for my spouse and infant, so we had to wait for a long time for such an appointment in YUL. They were both conditionally approved in August, but we had to wait for the appointment until Dec. 3. In principle, it is very unlikely to be better in YYZ, but one could always get lucky.

One question that I have for people is the following. My spouse received her card this past week, but my daughter's never arrived. I called on Friday (Dec. 14) and they told me to wait and call again next week. Is it normal that it takes over two weeks? Mine arrived within 5 days last summer, and my spouse's within 7 days. We are leaving for holiday on Dec 21, and I was hoping that we would all get to use the CATSA NEXUS line in YUL, and of course use it for immigration back to Canada after the holidays. I was happy that we got the back-to-back appointments this side of the new year for family travel over the holidays, but I am now worried that we will not have my daughter's card on time.
