Well, I can confirm that the TSA Pre-Check for Canadian Nexus holders is working just fine.

I have a PHX-LAX flight tonight on US. I made the reservations a while ago, but once the new eligibility for Canadians came up, I called US and had them add my Nexus PASS ID onto the reservation (you can't add it to an existing reservation online before check in with US).

Used the Pre-Check lane at PHX, got the three beeps and went through. Metal detector only, shoes on, laptop/liquid bags stayed in bag. I was the only one in line, so literally put my bag on the belt, walked through the metal detector and picked up my bag a few seconds later. I actually counted the time - 25 seconds from passing the document checker to leaving the line with my bag.

This is a pretty good benefit for Nexus members, now we need them to expand the program to include flights to Canada.

My infant daughter was approved yesterday, but I have a question that was not answered well during the interview. Going into the US and planning to use GE, do my wife and I use the kiosk and then process our daughter with the CBP officer at the desk, or do we all just go straight to the desk and skip the kiosk? The CBP officer was keen to go home, and was not in the mood to answer too many questions.

Thanks for the input.

Actually, your infant's account can (should have been) setup to allow for GE without fingerprints. There is a flag in the system that can be set so that when the passport is scanned it will just bypass the fingerprint part and more on to the questions. I'd try it next time you go through, and if it doesn't work go to the crew desk with your 2 GE slips and have them process her.

Thanks for this. I did ask at the interview but the CBP officer just said something along the lines of "just do whatever you want". I will try it next time.

I submitted my application to renew my Nexus membership a couple of weeks ago. It will expire in early January. Today I got an email from GoES. Went online and my application has been approved. No need to go to the airport for an interview. :)

Hi again...

My 14 year old has his nexus appointment booked for December 26th. I want to give him a bit of an idea of what to expect in the interview. Don't really want to search through 377+ pages of conversation, so hoping someone can let me know what sort of questions the officers will be asking him.

Thanks! :-)

Nothing painful. Mostly confirming what he put on his application and perhaps asking about residency and work, although given his age, that probably won't be a heavy topic.

For Dawn Retel, I was thinking of the "trick question", where they ask something they already know but in an open ended way. (e.g., they asked had I ever lived in the US. Too long ago to have been mentioned on my application but I had, and said so. I am sure they had the full record of that period on the screen when they were asking. They asked if I was on a particular visa type, and I said not that one, and gave the type I had, and they were satisfied that I was forthcoming and honest.)

As long as he answers every question with a complete and accurate response without trying to find the "right" (most desirable) response or second guess the meaning of the question, the interview will be fine. At 14, he is probably old enough to start thinking about some answers being more desirable than others, but in this case, if they're not the true answers, they're wrong. Reassure him to just be forthright and truthful and friendly and all should be fine. They've already decided he's conditionally trusted, so they're just doing housekeeping on that decision.

In my interview at YYZ, both the Canadian and US officers were relatively young (although might seem old to a 14 year old) women, sort of the high-school teacher demographic. That would probably be a bit more comforting to a teen than a big male officer type.

Anyone know what the current timeline is from Application to Approval?

Took almost 7 weeks for me for me. Applied October 4, conditional approval November 21.

flyquiet Dec 5, 2012 9:12 am

Conditional approval looks like 4-6 weeks in a lot of the posts upthread but wait for the interview varies. You can't use Nexus until you have completed the interview successfully and had the iris scan/fingerprint thing.
Some places are booking interviews in May 2013.
Card comes "7-10 business days" after successful interview (mine came in about 5 calendar days).

Here are a couple of posts where people described the process:

"My experience from start to finish"
The interview

One thing that all the interviews seem to have in common is the question, "Why do you want NEXUS?"

InTheAirGuy Dec 5, 2012 12:38 pm

My 17 year old son has Nexus. He's used in domestic Canada.

Tomorrow he has a solo trip to meet me in the US (golf trip) .... and will be navigating Pearson T1 Nexus first time. I've explained the process to him ad-naseum, and as you know, a 17 year old automatically already knows this stuff.....

It should be interesting!

I have applied Nexus for family. I think I can not book for the interview before it is conditionally approved. Right?
