Thank you again, I'm an hour away from Buffalo and will do just what you suggested, might as well make a shopping trip out of it. :)

Hey guys! It's probably a long shot but I'll ask this here. :)
My partner and I have had NEXUS for about 2 years now. We only travel for pleasure and probably have used the NEXUS about 5 times. Each time I use the NEXUS going into the States in airports I get called into secondary, and I'm always told it's because my information is the same as someone else, or something along those lines. Perhaps there is a fugitive with my name? I'm not sure. Either way this can sometimes take an extra hour in secondary and once caused me to miss my flight. Last month as a test I decided NOT to use my NEXUS and just went the regular route. The agent told me the SAME thing "you're information is the same as another persons" bla bla bla. However he didn't need to send me to secondary. The entire thing took about 4-5 minutes. It seems if I use my NEXUS card I'll be delayed about an Hour. If I don't use it, I'll go right through. Isn't this the EXACT opposite purpose of the NEXUS? Is there anything I can do you think? Should I contact my local nexus office? Help? |

If you are Canadian (and I am guessing you are), then you should probably go through your MP's office. They may need some more coaching, but this is a federal program (in both countries) so they should at least try to help. |
Got a postcard from US CBP today telling me that I could enroll in GE, log into GOES to see a message, etc. I live in the US. Of course, I already know this and will actually be in ORD and SFO next week, so will take care of it there.
However, I actually got two postcards. One was headlined "Exapnd your NEXUS Benefits..." by joining GE for free. The second said "Expand your [non-existant] SENTRI Benefits." So wondering how I got on that second list. I assume an error, but who knows... |

If so the other person could be your partner. This happened to Mrs YEG Guy and me last week in YYC on our way to LAS. Got sent to secondary for a check up as we both have same last name, on the same flight, with the same APIS info etc. Agent in YYC made a note to file that we are husband and wife so this should speed up the process next time. |

I know someone else who has this happen because her name is the same as someone on the US No-Fly List.

And why would someone on the no-fly list ever be approved for NEXUS? What is the point of having a trusted traveler program if then they are going to send you to secondary over something that should have been thoroughly checked and cleared well before you ever got the card?

Are you asking? I could guess. The No-Fly List is constantly updated. You have a Nexus card and are added a year later to the NFL.

Then you change your address and try to get into the US via a Canadian airport using Nexus. Do they let you go ahead or do they send you to secondary? And if you are fortunate enough to have the same name, guess what they do.

These people are in charge of security? |

Surely they should cancel the Nexus card of anyone added to the No-Fly list, rather than just sending them to the secondary every time?

The logic in terms of the US CBP operations seems clear to me. The point is that you are not the person who is flagged but every time your name is entered that name is flagged by their system because there are no exemptions. The name on the Nexus card receives the same flag every time because a name on a Nexus card or a name on a passport is never specifically indicated as not being on the NFL but the agent can look at additional factors, perhaps a photo, which is not possible for the Nexus machine. My friend has this happen again and again and so does the person who asked about this. The other explanation for the person's difficulty is ...?
But Nexus is a trusted traveller program, and given that the iris scan provides positive identification of a person who is definitely not on the no-fly list, getting sent to secondary every time certainly appears to be ridiculous. But maybe there really is an explanation other than either incompetence or paranoia? |
nexus n ge
So I went in to update info today and asked abt ge and the cdn side said you need to apply through goes for an interview to which I replied that the button was greyed out and then she said oh you gotta keep trying when an appt slot is available then you can click on it.
Based on past comments from others it seems like their info is wrong? Also the us side said oh don't really know much about it, why would you need ge anyway???? |
