I took MegaBus to BUF once with Nexus card in hand.

No seperate line, no special treatment at US CBP.

If anything, it slowed me down since the officer told me "bus people" don't usually have Nexus and she proceeded to quiz me on what seemed like 10 years of US entries.

I've done this. Didn't seem to help or hurt the two times I did this. Though I think I left my RFID-blocking card cover on the desk last time. whoops.

Not sure why anyone would get their iris scan the same day of travel though.

Not sure, but I would guess the machines in the office are in a "training mode, and don't connect to the live system.

I know that's how the GE machines are in the GE offices in the US. I asked when I got my fingerprints done and they took me to try the machine. They told me that it was set to "training mode" and doesn't actually connect to check your fingerprints/passport in the GE database. They said that if it was a "live" machine, it would actually track your test use as an entry to the country.

Article in the YVR Air Mail newsletter today about the new GE machines. Specifically points out you don't require a declaration card, so hopefully, they're not requiring one when entering pre-clearance.

My favorite part is the last sentence of the piece, which refers readers to the CBSA web site for more info. about GE.

Went through YVR twice in the last 2 weeks - they no longer check for declaration cards before entering the checkpoint.

Yeah, figured that much myself but wanted to see if there are any loopholes...I mean, my worry is always which agent you get to talk to. Technically I can be self-employed (registered INC), have't changed the address for last 10 years, but I wanted to get rid off tax filing so applied for non-resident status last year and they might start looking into that!

Update from YOW

As previously reported, US CBP has installed two GE machines at YOW in addition to the two NEXUS machines. On my last trip through, the NEXUS machines were both out of order. The passport reader on both GE machines was also broken but I was able to enter my details manually. Agent was unfamiliar with GE and demanded declaration form even though all of that information is already entered into the kiosk. He then proceeded to question me about the purpose of my travel etc. and stamp my passport just as in my pre-NEXUS days.

I am in the US on a TN and the GE machine prints a new I-94 each time I go through... not sure what to do with my collection of them now. CBP agent said I am supposed to return the I-94 each time I leave the US, even for a day or two, but that they let Canadians keep them "as a courtesy". Not sure how this is supposed to work, since the I-94 document number is linked to my NEXUS account.

But didn't want to take any chances re the groceries - if you can poop it you must declare it, we were told when we joined the program.

Groceries they don't bother cos you're allowed X items of produce, food, etc. Thanks for replying!

Any non Canadian Nexus holders who can shed some light onto the process for using Nexus and an ESTA and a I-94W? I was told that I have to visit the Nexus office with ESTA in hand before heading to the US... any insight on what process I should expect? Also I was told that when I get an I-94W, I need to register that at the Nexus office too - as these are only issued when you cross the border, is there a time limit on when I need to go to the Nexus office? Also I assume they just need to see the stamp in the passport (as I generally return the green card when I leave the US).

When I was issued my Nexus card I was told nobody even issues I-94W anymore and it is all ESTA's now (which is incorrect), no mention was made of having to continually check in with the Nexus office... the responses from the CBP seem to change depending who you speak to.

Just get cdn citizenship and your issues become a non-issue :)

Just had my Nexus interview last Friday and approved for the membership. Look forward to receiving my card. Pretty excited.

The application is in but the government wheels turn ever so slow... 12-18 months to process a citizenship application is a joke... but I digress... sigh.

Hey YZF_Flyer,

I asked the same question earlier in this thread - I have my original I94 that is tied to my NEXUS account. The Global Entry kiosk spits out a new I94 each week, with a different (sooner) expiry date than my original I94.

I have kept my original I94 stapled to my passport, and turn in my other I94 to the airline every time I leave the USA.

Hi

Looking to get my fingerprints done for GE. Should I just do it when I am out at YYZ the next time, or make my way down to Ft. Erie one Saturday?

I would do it in the US, but I will most only be in SFO when the office is closed.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

the yul staff are simply wrong on this one! You can still use the nexus line just go to the kiosk but when you get the question about answering yes to any of the checkbox questions, answer yes. The receipt that prints out will have a code on it for the officers at exit to send you to secondary where they will deal with the wine and u can pay duty. I've done this before with dried fruit (didn't want to take any chances). My mom who is a shopper has also declared over her exemption several times this way and there has never been a problem. Of course YMMV, they always like to do things differently in la belle Provence.

Just encountered this (encampbe's post is from August 2008) at YUL yesterday. Declared a pound of coffee, answering Yes on the form and at kiosk. Was told by agent that I am breaking the law, that you are not allowed to answer yes and then use Nexus. I have done so at least 15 times since Canpass days. He let me through "this time" and I went to the Nexus office to confirm. Two agents concurred that I was not allowed to answer yes on section a and use Nexus. One agent added that I didn't need to declare coffee. I was surprised, as it is a fruit. Or a vegetable. Or something.
