Yes that is correct - I just did that 2 weeks ago. You go to the US side for your interview. Once it is completed you ask for the iris scan. They will give you a one time toll pass to cross the bridge for free (you need this as you don't actually get the Nexus card for 6-10 days). On the Canadian side you go into the office, have your eyes scanned and you are good to go.
This is definately the way to go. The wait for an interview in Niagara Falls is typically less than 2 weeks. After the interview, they gave me a control number to speak into the intercom at the bridge; this let us cross the bridge for iris scans on the Canadian side, and we didn't have to pay the toll. One note, apparently the Canadian side is usually tied up processing a train in the late afternoon, so they often won't do iris scans then. We were there around 5pm, and apparently lucked out because the train was delayed that day. Overall, cordial and quick process, and the cards showed up at my house less than a week after the interview. |
Received an email today from US CBP automated email
We are pleased to announce that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is partnering with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on a new Department of Homeland Security initiative announced July 14, 2011, that qualifies some passengers for expedited screening through U.S. airport security checkpoints. This pilot program will be available to U.S. citizens who are members of CBP’s Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI Trusted Traveler programs. The pilot program will provide expedited screening through TSA checkpoints via dedicated screening lanes. Additional information will be sent out prior to the pilot’s implementation, explaining more about the program and the necessary steps you will need to take in order to participate. For more information and the latest updates, please visit www.tsa.gov or contact TSA at (866)289-9673. Additionally, CBP would like to announce the availability of Global Entry kiosks at select Canadian preclearance locations. Global Entry kiosks are now available at CBP preclearance at the Vancouver International Airport and at Ottawa’s MacDonald-Cartier Airport. Global Entry kiosks will be placed at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport and at Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport by September 2011. The placement of Global Entry kiosks at Canadian preclearance locations is the next step in the integration of the Global Entry and NEXUS Trusted Traveler programs. The integration of the Global Entry and NEXUS programs began in December 2010, when CBP published a Federal Register Notice announcing that NEXUS members could participate in Global Entry. With the deployment of Global Entry kiosks to Canadian preclearance, Global Entry members will be able to take advantage of the program when returning home from Canada. NEXUS members will have the option of using either the Global Entry or NEXUS kiosks in preclearance. Further announcements will be made as necessary. This is an automated email. Please do not reply. |

I was approved for Nexus, but need to pass Canadian interview (already have GE). I am in Toronto now, but the first available interview is in October.
Has anyone just showed up at YYZ for interview? |
They appear to try to accommodate walk-ins at YYC - when I was there today they said they had accepted 3 or 4 today.

Just went through this, as well. Interview for the whole family at Whirlpool Bridge took less than 30 minutes, and despite the fact that I had to schedule our interviews across two different days, they took us all on the first day.
After the interview, they gave me a control number to speak into the intercom at the bridge; this let us cross the bridge for iris scans on the Canadian side, and we didn't have to pay the toll. +1 Whirlpool Bridge is the best way to go. I went in July for my interview and the rest of the family is this month. Never more than a 2-3 week wait. If you are coming in from the US, it is only a 1.5 hour drive from Pearson Airport.
And you don't cross the border to the USA at all, it is all on the Canada side including the US guys and gals. |
I live by NYC, none of these other options is optimal for me.
I went to YYZ office anyway since I was already there to fly out - the CBP was nice in saying no way they can take me, but it seemed like they could - they just didnt want to. I scheduled one in SEA later in fall. In the meantime I used the pilot line at YYZ with by shiny GE - very nice ;-) |
Re-apply? While my passport still "flagged"
Hi there, seeking some advice. I was called for interview of my NEXUS application back to May but got denied after the US CBP officer believed that I has been working in US with Visa. Which of course it is not true, and since then I always got send to second inspection and given the same story again and again. I have no problem for secondary inspection, and CBP office at POE always let me thru.
Now, my questions is should I re-apply for NEXUS while I still have my passport flagged? I already apply for Redress and they claimed they already in process of my case. One of the enrollment center officer suggest me to mail in the application with a detail letter to explained that I had no reason or intention to work inside USA without a Visa. But supervisor from the enorllment center whom denied my application told me to not even bother to try again. So, shall I re-apply? Sorry for the long post. Thanks. |
Where to report NEXUS fraud?
Hello.
I would like to know where I can report someone using NEXUS in a fraudulent way? A Canadian citizen (born in Columbia) in Verdun, Quebec who we tried to serve court papers to lied to the bailiff regarding his residency status. We have the bailiff papers from when this individual told the bailiff that we was not a resident of Canada but a resident of Dakar, Senegal. This was done so he would not be served papers. We know this not to be true and he holds a NEXUS card with his residency clearly stating Verdun, Quebec. Please let me know where I can send a copy of this bailiff report to NEXUS officials so that this man may have his NEXUS card taken away. Thank you. |

My advice is to keep your personal legal problems to yourself and not prejudice your case by posting to a public forum.
