I'm a lapsed, multi-year Diamond user of KVS and am thinking about coming back to it (especially since I'm now self-employed and get to book my own travel, albeit in the back of the plane).

How are your experiences of the tool these days? I see that KVS is still active in updating it and responding to questions. (And no, I shan't be doing another comparison chart, that got me into big trouble last time!)

Also, am I right in reading the coverage chart in thinking that the display of EK data is only partial? That's where I seem to spend a lot of my life these days, despite my dislike of bling ;)

Must be something wrong with that machine then -- try clearing your MSIE Cookies and restarting the KVS Tool.

YGPM! ;)

Am I the only person that actually pays full price for the tool? I want PM too :(

I'm only joking, I'm perfectly happy really.

Understanding This Correctly?

Noob question...

I got KVS mostly to look for award flights. To be honest I don't understand much about fare buckets.

I went online to book a flight YYZ-RDU outbound Nov. 2, return Nov. 4. The best option was on DL and it said "Economy (T)" for the flights in both directions.

I went into KVS and searched for those flights and saw T7 for both of the segments on the outbound and T8 on both segments for the return.

Does this mean that at least at the moment, there are 7 available seats on the outbound and 8 on the return in this fare bucket, and that if the fares don't change I am very likely to be able to book this fare tomorrow or the next day? Understanding of course that there are fare rules (two days from now would be the 21-day window) and that fares could change.

How would I find the fare rules on DL.dumb?

I agree. Gad, for Diamond level it's only $6 a month and you can get get just a 6 mos. subscription for just $45. For less you can get a lower level, but very good version. Do you "coupon" seekers want it for free? KVS is great- my only little irritation with it is that it's quite slow compared with ExpertFlyer. I subscribe to both as each serves different needs of mine.

I don't think there's much more to know about fare buckets? You're pretty much there.

Yes, T7 and T8 mean there are currently 7 and 8 seats respectively in that fare class at the moment. I don't think you need to worry about the fares changing, but you could find that those 7 or 8 seats are sold and the lowest fare you can find is then in a different fare class which is more expensive.

In the fares tab, if you double-click on a row you'll see an option to view the fare rules.

Hope that helps.

KVS does everything I want it to and the price is great. Only problem is no native Mac support but VirtualBox takes care of that.

That did it. Title bar doesn't show the "R2" though, just 7.0.7. I thought in previous versions the "R" number did show. Makes it hard to tell what version is running.

KVS Tool will be showing the revision number (if any) in the title bar, starting from the next update.

Thanks for taking the time to put together those comparison charts -- they were certainly useful (and time saving) to other members!

The "trouble" part sounds intriguing -- please feel free to share the details via PM or http://Contact.KVSTool.com/

EK Award Availability support is, indeed, limited at the moment: http://Help.KVSTool.com/#EK

Are you, perhaps, able to switch to EY instead (where the KVS Tool has exclusive Award Availability Coverage)?: ;) http://Help.KVSTool.com/#EY

Requests like these are considered on a case-by-case basis. Rest assured, that as a matter of policy, we do not issue Coupons on a routine basis or use other forms of routine discounts/marketing gimmicks, as that would be unfair to our existing loyal members.

As all account-related matters are dealt with via PM or E-Mail for privacy reasons, a "YGPM" message does not imply a specific outcome with regard to the request.

Wow, she said, I wish all award bookings were this easy. I loved that I could check availability by several methods. I know I get the best results by "building" my ITN one seg at a time. Without this Tool I'd be lost. Thanks for all your hard work!

No questions from me yet, just happy such a tool exists for travelers.

Many thanks to all of you for taking the time to share your feedback!

I'm trying to look up fares for BDL-LAX one way, but I get an error of "An invalid city has been entered" when using DotRes, and "?? ????? ????? ????..." when using PSH.

In fact, looks like this happens each time I search for fares on a route involving BDL.

Other city pairs I had no trouble with, only BDL. Any thoughts?
