Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

It is an extremely soft and luxurious seat, something the hard Qsuite can’t be compared with.

Absolutely - EK J on B777 (even on their new B777) is a joke

I know, it's a shame they kept the 2-3-2 layout!

I totally agree that the EK seat is soft and luxurious, but it is flawed in my opinion (and it's only my opinion).

Many on the EK Forum feel disappointed by the 2-3-2 layout, and that is seemingly echo'd by a number of EK passengers (and crew reports).

If this was just a mild refresh, then perhaps it wouldn't garner such attention, but EK made a song and dance about the new EK J seat.

Am I going mad but I am sure that it was reported yesterday that 14 out of 57 777s have the Qsuites installed already. That surely cannot be right?

Probably a misunderstanding at the press conference, QR will have 14 777 delivered with the Qsuites.

Out of curiosity, how does QR reassign allocated seats when a flight is switched to Qsuite? I’m booked as single traveller on a SYD flight that now promises to be with Qsuite. J is 75% booked with most of empty seats in the middle section, suggesting to me there are more families and couples than single travellers. I chose a middle seat to get aisle access.

Is it reasonable to expect QR will automatically attempt to swap solo travellers from the centre seats towards the windows and vice versa for groups/couples? Will I be notified when that’s done?

I would call them and see if you can switch to a window seat or check online. As a solo traveler I really liked row K.

To clarify, has the seat map for your flight changed to QSuites? I thought QR saying CBR would get QSuites from June was a bit like saying all 58 of their 77Ws would have QSuites within 18 months, or QR saying they were going to start a LAS service, etc etc...

The seatmap is still the old six abreast. It’s only the geek in me that wants to understand how they go about the game of musical chairs when the change goes through due to customers preferences being polar opposites between the configurations (solo travellers in centre before vs windows in Qsuite and the opposite for non- solo travellers).

Was hoping someone observed and could recount what happened in similar situations in the past.

A sensible way would be to remove all seat assignments.

I was at the presser, and was the one who asked the question of the CEO about the Qsuites rollout timetable, and in his reply when speaking of the current fleet (with regard to upgrading DOH-SYD-CBR to Qsuites in June) he stated "only 14 are equipped" .

In an interview with the NZ Herald the head of QATAR stated that Qsuites will be coming to the AKL route next year sometime.
