Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.
They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.
The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.
All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.
Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

I am flying Qatar from the US to Doha on May 2nd.
I had planned to fly from PHL-DOH so I could get my first trip on an A350, but I'm now planning on JFK-DOH so I can take the a350 out and try a Q-suite on the 777 back.
Since I cant see seat maps online until after the purchase, is their any way to see if the PHL-DOH A350 flight will have Q-suites installed by May?

flyguy00 very little is really known about the middle seats. TGflyergirl has posted some information in the Wiki on this thread. It appears that the middle seats are available ON REQUEST only and usually for two or more passengers. However once the 'side' single seats are all taken then some centre seats will be opened for selection. I would imagine that it is only one, or maybe two groups of four would be opened until full. And as TGflyergirl says also if the EF seats are taken.
So if you want a centre seat then you have to ask QR for it!

Which isn't all too different to what other airlines do to launch a new route. I remember BA sending the Concorde to reopen a route. QR sent the A380 to Atlanta, etc. And bear in mind that CBR won't be a priority for QR. They have more important routes (in terms of revenue) to switch to the QSuites first.

Rydad1 two deliveries of the brand new A350-1000 are expected in the first quarter of this year. It is thought that they will be used for LHR and CDG. The schedule for further deliveries is unsure at the moment. Since the only Qsuites fitted A350s available are being used elsewhere the chances of having a 35X service at PHL in May is virtually zero!
Please remember rule no. 1 of this forum : Never choose a flight for the aircraft type. There is a good chance that you will be disappointed!

I'm 5'8" and around 135 pounds, so I need less space for the actual seat; but storage space and compartments are very important to me. I'll have to try it.

So my JFK - DOH flight in April seems to have reverted to Qsuites and I have been assigned seat 5A. I gather that this is a backward facing seat. Does anyone have an opinion on this vs the B seats?
Thanks in advance.

vbh812 there have been a number recent reports here regarding those seats.
The backward facing window seatsare very close to the window but far from the cabin crew who are difficult to come in contact with due to the geometry of the seat.
The forward facing seats supposedly feel cramped because the seat is right against the privacy divider to the aisle and is far from the window.
Do read the thread to see the comments yourself. You will learn more from them than I have written here.

Whilst not Q-Suite, I have been on BA CW rear facing many times and prefer the privacy of the window. Also the slight nose high tilt of a plane in flight means that (on BA at least) your head is slightly higher than your feet and for me i sleep much better.

Same here. They usually fly at a nose-up angle of around 4º.

But SYD is, is it not? And the only reason hey are flying to CBR is to get around the rules and allow a second daily SYD flight.
to have an a380 service with F and their good J product and a second 777 service with a J product 2 generations behind the current doesn’t seem to be the correct approach.
i think CBR will only be <20% fully occupied syd-CBR since they can’t do fifth freedom sales on the domestic leg

I'm still keeping the faith that the new version will be used more often on DOH-SYD. Schedules do change
