Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

I thought that they were leasing 30 787s to Air Italy!? So any new hard product on the 787 is likely to be introduced with the 787-9, no? I don't see QR transfer brand-new 787-9s while keeping older 787-8 that will have to be retrofitted with something resembling the Qsuites.

Ah fair enough...perhaps I picked the wrong info source!

What are your thoughts on DOH>IAD switching away from Qsuites after March 24th? I'd love to book something June/July but all the seatmaps are back to the old style. Is it not strange for them to trial Qsuites on this route for only a couple months? Does QR have a typical schedule for updating routes seasonally? (I've mostly been flying EK and ET so don't really know what's normal with QR)

I've read elsewhere that it's 20 x 787s. Whatever the number that's a significant investment. Head for Points covered it today and gives a interesting appraisal of the situation.

I've read 20 737 Max 8 (presumably those ordered by Qatar Airways around the time the state of Qatar's defence order was given the go-ahead) and 30 787s (not specifying whether they are going to be -8s or -9s). AFAIK they are all going to be leased to IG by QR. It would seem odd if QR would keep older 787-8 that it would have to retrofit eventually rather than leasing them in the current configuration and taking delivery of 787-9 that come with a revised J. In any case, it will be an ambitious plan to grow the fleet to 50 airplanes by 2022.

I'm somewhat more confident that IG will succeed. Contrary to the acquisitions made EY, IG seems like a much safer bet. While AZ had to be saved numerous times over the years, IG has managed to operate profitably over the years. AB was, at the time EY significantly increased its shares, already facing financial difficulties.

Is this definitely a change from the original plan? IIRC it was going to be "a modification of the concept due to the narrower cabin" [on 787 and 380, I think?]. That could still fit the description above, or it could be "we tried but couldn't make it work".

The 787 is still better than the a330's, a340's and a320's so why scrap em?
I think the seat is better than Qsuites to be honest.

Not sure what you've got against the Qsuites, but I much prefer them.
Mainly the privacy it gives, but also for travelling with my partner it is way nicer then the 787's.

I don't find the seats uncomfortable at all but I guess des goûts et des couleurs, on ne discute pas

Privacy is never an issue for me, padding and comfort along with soft product figure higher.
The 350/380/787 deliver on this front along with a modest amount of privacy.
The Qsuites is a great product don't get me wrong, but it just isn't to the level of most F seats and in my opinion their 'old' herringbone seat.

I did not complain about the Qsuites themselves, but argued that compared to the 320/330/340 fleet the 787/350's did not require an urgent refit where the finance could at least be allocated to repairing those wretched Al Maha craft.

But QSuites is a J seat, not F.

What timing...EF is now showing qsuites up through June and July when I'm traveling. Woohoo!

Soft product is better on Q-suite at this point in time, sorry, getting a PJ on a 6 hour dayflight out of CDG, when not getting this flying on a 9 hour night flight to DPS.. What soft products do you find better?

Like msm2000uk said, it's still a J product, not F.. You don't pay an extra premium for it.

And they won't refit their newest A/C (nor 'scrap' 787's, they're leasing the 787-8 to Air Italy as with the ban they have less use for them, but they'll be receiving 787-9's).. So, I'm also totally lost there..

Not to mention that the A330s and A340s will eventually leave as well.
