If you have time in Nome, try to get a vehicle and drive out a couple of the roads that lead into the Seward Peninsula bush - maybe the Nome - Council Road to the "last train to nowhere" or the Kougarok Road to Pilgrim Hot Springs - lots of wildlife in the area, especially musk oxen.

Yes. The discussion wasnt about changes to the first segments. It was if you can date change future segments for free before flying the first. Its clear you can after flying it.

I got rerouted and flew them on the DOH-KUL segment due to an RJ cancellation in January and was very pleasantly surprised. It definitely helped though that QR hadn't sold a single seat in business on the flight so there were only 2 people in the whole cabin (the other was the Malaysian sports minister). I thought the service was good, food perfectly fine, and seat comfortable (A330).

Ive read that the food can be pretty grim, but gonna try and be glass half full about this. I havent actually flown them long haul since around 2005 when I did first on the 747 from LAX so itll be a nice chance to see!

As Malaysian, i flew DOH-KUL, KUL-DOH, 16x in total. 1x in MH, the rest in QR. Once i did Qsuites, hard to go back to MH. It doesnt help when sometimes MH price is higher than QR.

Thanks - gives me some hope. The seat is ok - Ive flown it before. Certainly not internationally the best like Q-Suites or even private products like Polaris or NH. But I have the 1K throne so itll be more than acceptable for a daytime.

[...] Might get tempted if there's another strong swing somewhere though and just book for next spring / summer, my primary reluctance in booking too far out is that I will have to use QF and they only allow changes to a year from ticketing vs. the correct 1 year from first departure. [...]
Luckily (rightly) QF didn't have any issue with changing a number of flights on my exCAI DONEx to past 1 year of the issuing date; the last flight will be something like 14 months after the ticketing date.
Disclaimer: This was only changes in the dates of the flights, routing remained the same, and since I've already started the ticket, no repricing or change fee was needed. No idea how they would have handled route changes.

i actually have a followup question. What are the rights if you have flight canellations? For example, i have a flight connecting via HEL, could i change it to connect via LHR as part of the flight canellation i got? I am rarely flying oneworld therefore i don't know the generall procedures (which i also don't know if they would be applied on a RTW ticket).

On my CX ticket I don't think I ever had any significant airline cancellations / changes so never came up, but CX has generally been pretty decent to deal with anyway.

Who issued your ticket? I have 2 experiences of an involuntary change with a QF ticket and they were pretty good about dealing with it. One time they let me bundle in several other changes that would otherwise be chargeable, the other time they didn't, they processed the invol first then went back to the other changes I wanted (that were chargeable).

One is RJ where a 2h connection turned into a 25h layover (could i use it to generate a stopover, even if not intended at first?) and second is AY from LAX. The routing actually would be SEA-LAX-HEL-ZRH but i had to set it up by booking SEA-LAX and LAX-HEL-ZRH. Ideally i would change it to SEA-LHR-ZRH but i assume that would not be possible as i made it a manual transit? Or do you have a different experience? Thanks for the help!
It's impossible for us to guess at the ease or difficulty in getting it fixed without that info.
The RJ one would easily be eligible for a re-route unless you actually want to spend a day in Jordan. I've been there a few times and it's a very nice country and plenty you can do in 24 hours, but up to you. The visa is slightly expensive in my opinion compared to others in the region. Very high chance you can re-route it on QR which is a FAR FAR superior airline. RJ is about as basic and old school as it gets in business class these days. QR on the other hand is top notch.
For your second one with AY, I'm not exactly following what you mean by manual transit. Your original routing, despite having to enter it like you did will still be a transit on the ticket, not a stopover. Your proposed re-reroute seems viable, but I'm not sure Id' advise it depending on the BA product on that route. Unless it's BA's new Club Suite, the old one is God awful. AY flies to SEA as well don't they? You can also re-route it on QR via DOH if you're after extra miles and a better flight experience. (Yeah A LOT longer in the air, so again priorities do matter)
