Norwood, MA - attempted purchase VR with credit was denied at register, manager tried to override, but could not

Quincy, MA - out of VR, so I attempted credit purchase of PayPal reload and had success, I went home into my stash and brought back a VR to the store to attempt. Manager checked me out, but credit was denied at register. Attempted another PayPal reload on credit and again, success.

Wonder how long that will last... not that it's particularly helpful.

After you purchase a VR you can't bring it back to reload it since it is not reloadable.

But I'm not sure 100%.

After it happened the cashier called over the manager and she said something along the lines of "oh, i was wondering if it'd work today, we got an email saying that they're all going to be cash only. I guess I should post that."

I went to two more stores on the way home - at the first the person in front of me at the register had the same thing occur, and the other was sold out, so i'll check again tomorrow.

Still working in my SoCal location as of 10 minutes ago. I need 5k more on my citi card, but I can't buy any beans on it because the 4k I bought on Sunday put me over my CL and the transactions are STILL processing so I can't pay them off. It's so incredibly frustrating. :(

That said, just picked up another 1k on my SW card, so that one is done at least.

Why that spending pattern didn't still pass a fraud sniff test is beyond me, but gotta love Citibank computer logic!

I was about to go into a 5th store to buy, but since I'm just an AU on my wife's card, didn't want to push my luck having her try to explain that away without spilling the beans (literally)! :D

That's really fantastic information to know. I called a few days ago to notify Citi about an "upcoming large spend", and the stupid call took almost 15 minutes. Online options are always better.

I think I'm learning as many tricks in this thread over the past few days as I have on FT in the past 6 months.

Good luck. Citi takes forever to post these transactions - there's a good chance they won't actually post until after CVS stops taking CC. I've had them take right at a week before. Sorry, but don't count on the other 5k - consider yourself lucky if you pull it off.

I still have a lot of BB room this month. None of those silly VR things around here.

If Anyone wants to send the extras up to the Northwest we will take good care of them for you . ;)

and why is that? they don't expire, you bought it using your sinfful ways, it is yours nevertheless.

AHH omg. Finally saw that disgusting memo at my regular CVS, my regular cashier showed it to me. So sad! Went to two backup locations and it's still working at both of them for now...
