Just got rejected. A cashier told me, cash only starting today. I didn't ask for why and just walked away -

Can you give the specific store that you were told cash only? No need to hide cvs locations that are cash only now :)

If this is an April Fool's post, it's a pretty good one. Otherwise...

What a horrible day!

First place I went to, I asked if they still take CC for VR, and she said "Of course, why wouldn't we?". I feigned surprise and said "But I thought it's cash only starting today". The cashier had no idea what I was talking about, so I showed her a copy of the email. She immediately canceled my transaction. Bummer!

I tried at another location, and didn't say anything. However, the cashier was prompted with "Is customer in front of you?" So she answered "No" because I was browsing the chewing gum section at the time, which was a little to the side. Strike out again!

Finally, I went to my final location and tried to check out but was told "Cash only for VR!". I stormed out of that Walgreens and will never go back.

And after all this, I'm still gumless.

As pointed out earlier, the major retailers are able to keep their costs down by doing the upfront processing and negotiating favorable rates. Even after that, the largest retailer in the world (Walmart) still pays between 1 and 3 percent for rewards cards. This is according to their filing in their $5 billion lawsuit against Visa.

My thoughts are that these cards are probably sold at a small loss by the issuer. They bank on the fact that some of them get lost, and they get to pocket those funds as profit.

Wow. Showing the clerk the email. That is a slick move. Not to be mean but you deserve being denied the sale after doing something like that.

My theory is this is not an April Fools joke; it's a gorilla marketing campaign. By spreading this false rumor, many thousands of customers are lured into the store, where they buy many thousands of $ of VRs, and probably other items as well. So the quarterly profit report goes thru the roof. Boosting the stock price so insiders can sell at a higher price. ;)

Wait, is CVS selling gorillas now!?

Should have read the rest of it to realize it was nonsense.

I know, it's a bit early unless you're in Australia, mate!

Idiot. Walgreens isn't even the store on this thread and they don't allow VR with a CC anyway so I'm not sure why you tried there.

Just went to my bread and butter CVS. Brought 10 VRs to register and cashier began to ring them up.

They received a prompt on screen that said "Is customer in front of you?" to which they clicked "YES".

A follow up prompt then popped up and said "initiate Order 66", that crazy cashier whipped out their blaster pistol and tried to blast me.

I barely escaped with my life.

The great MSer purge is on, we need to retreat to our swamp hideouts.

Just went back to my usual CVS. They told me they'd match w/e amount of VRs I bought with an equivilant value of EC Bucks as a "close out liquidation special."

Bought all 150 VRs that were on the pegs using a combo of friends, family, and hobos IDs. Walked away with $75k in EC Bucks to boot. Best haul ever.

If anyone needs me to pick up some Preparation H due to the anxiety the loss of CVS has caused let me know. The 75k in EC Bucks expires two weeks from today so I have to go wild on spending it.
