That's the flaw in your logic.

Only if you can prove that they don't make any money on them.

Interesting that he used the term "high risk store". Of course, if only certain stores are making the move due to being high risk then scammers will just move on to the "low risk" stores and thereby make them high risk in the process.

To a certain extent, I live in a mostly rural area - the nearest cities are an hour drive away. I doubt scammers would drive all the way out here to buy a few VRs.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Criminals will travel to where they can make a profit.

All well this morn for VR in the Philly burbs at my two regular stores.

Actually, no. As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, it's $5k per day resetting at 12am GMT.

Unless something has changed recently, this wasn't the case before. Good if true

You don't think possibly making $1k on a couple cards isn't worth it to a scammer? Heck, there are people on here willing to go out of their way an hour just to get their MS in legitimately!

Just bought 3x $500 VR at CVS in Manhattan (NYC) using cc without any problem.

My favorite store manager claims a 20 cent profit to the store on each reload card.

Not sure how accurate that is, but I don't see him as an exaggerator.

Even if they break even on the cards they are making out. I know when we go there just to MS we buy other stuff at least half the time that we would never have purchased at CVS.

Good point, I was still thinking in a 5% mindset - which would only be $50 on a couple cards. It wouldn't be worth the drive for most MSers, but could be for scammers.

The fact that they prominently display gift cards and prepaids throughout the store and at the checkout counter should be enough of an indication that they make decent money selling them. Eye level at checkout is prime retail space, and it's almost all GC's at CVS.

Yep I have a feeling that the Target POS hack followed by a lot of CC fraud from stolen numbers is what's ending this at CVS. 2 out of the 3 stores I go to started calling to verify CC info before they would sell VRs, and both mgrs there said it was because of fraud.

It is kind of odd that they're still going to allow variable GC purchases with a CC though, I guess a lot of the crooks don't know that they are PIN enabled.

I wonder what that means! 20% on their purchase price (some fraction of $3.95)? Presumably not 20% of $503.95!

After buying $5K of VR on my new AA Elite card yesterday, I went to another pharmacy. There I got a fraud alert denial for a $1K VR with my Citi AA AMEX. Called Citi, CSR said there is massive fraud, with scammers making up their own counterfeit ccs. Because of the $10K minimum on the new AA Elite cc, they are slipping thru on large purchases. Talk about MS, that's really aggressive. :p

After verifying my identity he took off the denial so I was able to buy the VR, and gave me 3K miles for my trouble.

Do you ever do serve loads at this location? Wondering if some spots would still sell VRs with cc but refuse serve relad.
