Well, I don't think they will SELL for that much. If they do start selling for more than they're worth I'll start buying them for cash at CVS and putting them on Ebay myself.
Are there really that many stupid people out there? |

For a good laugh. It was only a matter of time.

AHHHHHH
Just went to CVS - cash only for VRs! This is awful news! Should have read this thread earlier and not delayed two days to buy! |

The sellers are opening themselves up to fraud (assuming they're not doing the scamming themselves). Anyone could buy this, unload the card, then file a case with eBay claiming the card didn't work, and eBay would give them their money back.
And all the sales are "Buy it now" - no auctions. |
Just had an interesting chat with a cashier (I'm not frequent enough to recognize many, but I know I've never seen her before). She warned me that these were going cash-only on the 4th, and then said something about "it was only a matter of time before they caught on." I kept a blank face, not really acknowledging that I had heard her, but then she explained the entire game to me (everything but how to liquidate them).
Apparently there are a few people who visit that location who run their mouths regularly. She talked about people flying first class to Europe, Africa, and everywhere else, using points they earn by buying VRs. She talked about one husband and wife who come in all the time and buy $4k each. She told stories about other people, how much they buy, and where they had been. She didn't sound like she was mad about any of it, or begrudged anyone their MS. But one has to assume that, if these people ran their mouths to her, they probably weren't too careful around other employees/managers. I don't think any of these people killed CVS for us, but they definitely broke the first rule of MS. So remember from here on out, people - don't (I'm sorry, I have to say it) spill the beans. |
The link showed a SOLD VR. There are dozens that have sold for 40% over value.
I think something shady is going on.

I don't know. But people have. |

How is this different then any other GC sold on Ebay? I am sure Ebay would contact the VR People, find out where the card was loaded to, and try to do some research.

Something looks shady. I don't see a regular buyer paying $720 for a $500 VR.

The chargeback route can be effective for scammers because there are some specific requirements for sellers on ebay for items over $250 that an inexperienced seller may miss. I've had two chargebacks attempts to items I've sold on Ebay, fortunately I had followed the rules and my funds were left intact. |

I just realized I'm floating $44k in VRs right now... If all goes well everything will be liquidated in less than a month though.

And all the sales are "Buy it now" - no auctions. In other words, the auctions are jokes. Good day for them, too. EDIT: The ones that have actually sold will almost certainly never actually be paid for. Happens way too often on auctions that people are fairly certain aren't serious. |

2/6 stores in my area with VR on the rack said memo told them to do cash only. 3 others mentioned cash-only starts in the next 2-3 days.
