I spent over an hour to liquidate $2k of OVs (netting a grand total of $78.60 not counting time or gas). Two separate WMs showed "Debit Not Authorized" on 2 different days, the money order machine was broken, and there was generally always a 5-10 minute line. Cashiers were helpful (or, not unhelpful - the technical issues weren't their fault) and I finally got MOs instead of loading BB, then had to deposit those at the ATM. Plus now I have to wait for those to clear versus immediately pushing a payment next day via BB.

Nothing was as quick & easy as VRs. GCs are OK for meeting minimum spend, but in all honesty it might not be worth the time to churn for additional points/profit.

oh well.

2 months is wishful thinking, happens before the end of April.

Partly true. you're right about Visa GC having 'gift card' in front, but the cards from bancorp (mostly sold at walgreen/CVS) are set on first use as well. Not sure on other cards

Good to know about the onevanilla though. thanks!

Agreed that it isn't as easy as the Gorillas, but if you scale up x5 or x10, it becomes worthwhile and less time-consuming. You can also liquidate via Evolve and AP, not everything requires a trip to WM.

Jimminy Christmas, that didn't take long. Points off for no circles or arrows, though.

I can't imagine that VGCs will escape the axe for long, they are susceptible to the same "abuse" (from CVS's perspective) that VRs were. Odds are, we'll end up with an Office Depot-like situation in a month or so.

From the MR enthusiast's perspective, though, VGCs involve a bit more labor and risk to liquidate.

I guess I need to look further into Evolve. I put my AP towards "real" spending on 1x cards (like SPG) since there are no fees, and use my 2x-5x cards for loading BB/MOs.

You haven't run into issues saying I need $2,4,5k worth of MOs, split on x # of cards? I feel like that's sticking out too far...no Kates around here, so I have to go up to the desk no matter what.

hell yeah! money orders are 49 cents at kroger, and they accept using debit cards for a money order

mayday23 Apr 4, 2014 9:48 am

My Jewel-Osco just stopped accepting debit cards for MO within the last few days. Time for trips to Meyer now.

Is it really necessary to post pictures? ...and then for others to repost the pictures in a quote??
No thought of "possible" shut down of the next go to card? Don't know or don't care?

No takers. Too much work for one person. But the Wiki could be improved.

But, in the end, probably wouldn't matter. Our suggestions imploring people to read the current Wiki are regularly ignored.

Fixed the wiki.
Now stop complaining.

Why more risk? What's the risk?

VR could be loaded the instant you bought them.

For gift cards you just hold onto the gift cards longer and also have to deal with getting a MO which isn't always a slam dunk. If you try to get a 5K MO people look at you like you're a drug dealer!
