Michigan going down tomorrow

My 2nd Citi Exec card just arrived today. I went straight to CVS and bought $5K. The clerk told me it would be cash only starting tomorrow.

I know this is a serious newbie question, but if I bought $5K at one CVS today, can I go to another and do a few thousand more tonight, or is the $5K limit applicable to all stores? Would it work if I went again just past midnight?

Check WIKI...
For the stores that scan ID max is now $5k per 24 hour rolling period. And there are stores that scan but still limit it to $1k per day. There are multiple reports of the "purchase day" resetting at 12am GMT, which is currently 8pm EDT, 7pm CDT, 6pm MDT and 5pm PDT (in other words, buying before and after that time within the same 24 hour day may work).

8 p.m. EDT seems to be the cutoff. If you're in Michigan, try after 7.

I don't buy the 8 pm EST. Others have stated that they bought late last night but the register hard codes for cash this morning. Why would that happen if it hadn't reset yet?

Thanks, and thanks also to knn9413a and westmassexpat.

I got annoyed by the giant wall of text in the Wiki. Here it is if anyone absolutely wants to put it back.

Datapoints, by location:
Boston, MA- Confirmed by Multiple Store Managers that a memo had been received, and that all VR sales are cash only, hard coded.
Boston, MA- Registers in all 18 stores have been updated to block purchase with CC; said alternate form of payment required.
Tampa, FL - same as above
Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX has MULTIPLE reports that they did not receive the memo, and one person in the area notes a cashier gave the doomed news.

CVS Cash-Only for VRs and / or Gift Cards by Location after 3/31/2014:

It seems possible that the rollout of the new code would hit the register sometime overnight tonight, but the existing code that calculates the cap per 24 hour period might utilize Greenwich Mean Time rather than Eastern time.

Is the CVS daily purchase limit for OneVanilla cards $5,000 like the VR cards or is it lower?

silver4300 Apr 3, 2014 6:29 pm

It's not really relevant anymore since 99.9% of the country will be cash only in four hours.

Yes, just did that today at my local CVS when VR didn't work. In fact, both cashiers were surprised when the computer system blocked the VR credit card transaction.
