I forget where it was reported/stated that CVS computers go to the new day at 8PM EST so theoretically it'd be hardcoded at that time and won't be able to buy after that. Nothing confirmed that I know of.

MMS? Whatever is on the list of reloadable products will go to cash only. I already linked the memo so just read that.

Inland So Cal cash only, I mixed with 2xpaypal 2xVR, and it rang up $20xx, and when I slide my CC, it only let me charge $1k, another 1K probably for VR is cash only. This is the CVS i purchased $5K regularly, they have super super friendly cashiers & manager, even the cashier try to help me by doing 1paypal & 1VR and still only able to pay $504 with CC.

Huntington Beach is now a "no go" for VR. Clerk also thought OV was no go but tried it and it naturally worked.

Read the footnote... :)

I was able to buy a $500 Vanilla Gift Card today using a credit card. CVS in Alameda (Santa Clara) and CVS in Castro Valley are now hard coded to sell Vanilla cash only.

This is almost as interesting as watching bitcoin forums after a crash.

I was told all including VISA/MC/AMEX GCs by tomorrow...I assume the clerk was misinformed.

You may not like the circles and arrows blog, but it can be informative.

Don't ask or question the cashiers on the Visa/MC/Amex GCs. Its not listed on the memo so I doubt it. If they don't allow you to buy it from that CVS with that store ..its more likely a store policy vs. a corporate policy and just go somewhere else or come back another time with a different cashier. Don't give them any ideas.

So I think I saw another mention of it, but I can't find it with a search now. Am I correct in understanding that I'm not the only one getting an error like this today?

Your transaction failed due to an issue with your prepaid card provider. For assistance, please call the customer service number listed on the back of your prepaid card. Error code: 29.
This happened with all 3 VRs that I bought today (2 from one CVS, one from a non-CVS location), and on both BB accounts (different SSNs) I tried to load them to. My BB accounts are definitely good, the VRs do show a balance when I enter the PIN, the receipts show them as activated, and it can't have been one cashier (or even corporate POS system) that screwed them up, since they came from different locations.

Is VR just having some system problems today?

Bluebird system is having issues for everyone at the moment.

Just made what I perceive to be my last CVS run for VRs. Everything went through swell. It was a fun ride.

Thanks. Had it been any other day, I wouldn't have worried about it too much, but somehow I just couldn't get the thought that CVS's change had screwed something up out of the back of my mind.

Same here. I don't really have any other reason to visit CVS, so now they'll just be sad reminders on the side of the road of the way things used to be.

I'm not a newbie, and I can careless of "don't give them any ideas" since the last of the CVS that I could buy reload wasn't my usual location. I probably will never go there again.

With $5000 purchase of VR/PP with splitting with 10 CCs or so, I told them the truth. They are all rewards credit cards; and reloads really don't matter since GCs other than AMEX have PINs. It won't prevent you (CVS) from getting frauds.

Now CVS, let's do the Cash Only for GCs.
