I was able to load Serve this afternoon but no success at a second store. However, I did buy VRs at that store so it's not the system. Darn Serve for going down right now!

Today when I went to one CVS they were out of VR cards (not unusual) so I wanted to buy two OV cards. Clerk first said that she thought they were cash only. Told here that I thought it was only "reload" cards that were cash only. She checked with another clerk and they thought the same thing but agreed to try the charge. Of course there was no issue so they allowed me to buy what I wanted.
Based on their words, it appears that the VR cards are hard coded in the system (because of their comment about trying the OV card to see if a CC was accepted). Bottom line is that many of the clerks have just been told about the change and have not studied the memo to really understand what is, and what is not, accepted. |

I was able to buy an OV but no MVD. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but can I just buy an MVD for $3.95 cash and put no money on it when buying? I need to load extra VRs so I don't have to sit on them for a month.

Can you guys imagine the uproar if we never got to see the memo or there was no memo. Just all of a sudden a register hard stop.

Ok Folks - i have some time today, so i am going to drive around until i find a store that will supply me GCs - the CVS one next to mine said No!

Serve reload unsuccessful in San Jose, CA, but they sold me two VRs, I wanted 3, but register printed a message 5k limit reached for some reason. Serve was declined with a message: "Preauthorization failed" popped up on a register. Don't know what that means. Total of 16k in VRs and 2k in Serve loads.

Stores are literally stacked as high with VRs as I've ever seen in my area. Surprising since I thought people would have cleaned out the area by now.

It's officially dead in the Los Angeles Area now... the CVS cashier was nice enough to let me take a picture of the Point of Sale screen saying "Tender Type is Not Valid", meaning cash only.

For OD, there was about a month lag time between going cash-only on VRs and going cash only on OVs. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same for CVS.
Note that VRs have been cash-only at most stores for quite a while, but many of those stores allow CC purchase of GCs. |
Officially dead for me. I just checked out my fifth store, the one I bought 12K from over the past 3 days. The store managers know me, they always help me out, but they said that it just kicked in today for cash only

Let's put it this way, The registers are HARD CODED , now I know some cute little girl can re-code the whole system...
Truth is it is over, many of the Managers would be glad to sell them, it us the register Thant is stopping the sale. No BS. not my first day guys. |
