So I thanked him, bought some Cadbury Creme Eggs and went on my way.

Well, it didn't change chain wide in the last few days, since I bought $5K OV yesterday afternoon. The cashier said "I think the limit is $1K, it just recently changed". I told her I didn't think that was correct, and she offered to try it and see what the computer said. Sure enough, the $5K was approved.

But there is nothing to prevent an individual store from implementing rules of their own. Some CVS have been cash only for at least a year. I think he meant his store is cash only now. Hopefully you have other CVS locations nearby.

What card gives you 5X for Drugstores? I'd love to get 5X for my OV purchases.

I think it is just an education problem. They see the word "vanilla" and assume it was part of the list from the memo. I bought some over the weekend at this location just fine. But in this case it was the store manager, so maybe he just doesn't want to mess with them any more.

I went to a second CVS over lunch to get my OV cards and that cashier also said that it was cash only, but he went ahead and tried and it worked. Hopefully it is just a matter of time before cashiers learn the new policy and there won't be any problems.

Of course, at this rate that will probably be around the same time that there is a new CVS memo saying that OV's are also cash only.

The latest memo doesn't stop us from buying pin-enabled GCs or those are out of the picture as well?

Have you read anything posted here from even the last day? :p

The memo only addresses reloadable cards. Meaning cards you can reload, like the MyVanDebits, and cards you can use to reload with, like VR. It doesn't mention pinable VGCs, such as OV at all.

Some stores may choose on their own to not accept ccs for VGs.

Some stores mistakenly think they are not supposed to take ccs for VGSs, but can usually be convinced to try, and then they find out all is well.

And many stores just sell them with no problem. You have to go try to find out which is which.

Anyone has the list of prepaid/re-loadable cards 'cash only' from the memo at CVS for the wiki?

This happened to me twice and both times I have explained that OV is not MV and asked them to try, with success. While the usual ethos is "Don't argue" I put CVS in a different category. Generally MS-friendly (or at least not unfriendly), they have the memo, some things are on it and some aren't. Yes, in theory I could cause the store to issue a blanket ban, but with Head Office supplying a list of products, I just think that is less likely.

And hopefully I made it easier for the next person to buy OV with CC from the cashier (who in one case was the manager).

there are several pictures.... don't ask us to do the work when you can just as easy...

remember your mileage may vary... I have 2 CVS that I can still buy OV with CC and 1 no matter what the memo says will not let my buy any giftcard with CC as per managers orders

Google search. Several blogs have reported on this and have posted a picture of the memo. What is that you really want to know. Its pretty obvious which reloadable products are now cash only.

Had a pharmacist tell me I couldn't buy a OV with a CC...despite having made a $2k OV purchase at the front literally 60 seconds ago. Didn't bother complaining.

OMG! I'm such a noob :(. My CVS would only sell me 1k and I usually bought up front. I totally forgot that I could just go to the pharmacy part and buy another 1k. My life got flipped, turned upside down.
