Anyone in MA able to buy a VR yet?

Northern Indiana checking in: bought 2 $500 VR 10 min ago at my usual location. ID Scan+credit card, no questions asked. I deliberately scanned through the register area and found no such memo there. Zip code 46XXX
There is another CVS just about 2 blocks away that never takes CC for VR (as long as since i started MS), so didn't bother trying there. |
Vr's bought in Central Maryland today, no problem. Yesss!!!

Had my backup store deny me due to memo. Did not get a chance to swipe as we didn't get past the initial hello.

Just had a conference with the CEO of CVS. He assured me that this was an unfounded rumor, and gave me $500 CVS Cash to compensate me for the anxiety caused by this rumor.

Oh Dear , now every one going to call CEO to get their share of $
 just called the REAL CEO of CVS. He told me any compensation given by CVS CEO that is under $1000 is FAKE and does not directly come from himself. He also reassured me that all VR will be available for CC and gave me a 20% off coupon for VR purchase lifetime. |

Some cashiers are cash only. There are no bonus points for knowing what will happen next or having all the answered. I checked the T&C. There is zero chance of anything good coming out of showing a manager a memo you don't want to be accurate. As always with everything in MS, YMMV, it ain't paint-by-number or one-size-fits-all. Find what works for your needs, do it, don't talk more than you need to, try stuff, be nice, say 'thank you'! |
Data Point: loaded 2x $500 at the cash register at CVS in ELP. Both were successful. The store lady did get the "is the customer in front of you" flash on the register.

Cashier in NYC got "Is the person in front of you a person and not a zombie?" prompt. Clearly CVS fully aware that they have created the apocalypse.

Boston MA:
Was blocked by register at CVSs on Winter Street and Washington Street. Cashiers had not heard about it but both got the "alternate payment required" message. Mike |

It's definitely possible, although I would put my money on this being a nationwide change since having different POS systems with different rules would probably be logistically difficult.
Anecdotally, I spoke to a CVS store manager yesterday in a low-income neighborhood where I tried to buy $5k. He said "$5k is really aggressive" and told me that they were supposed to be cash-only because he had a "high-risk" store. Then he proceeded to sell me $1k. |
I tried to buy one just an hour ago. The cashier rings the card in, and its says "cash only" on the register. location = south Jersey, near Philly.
