Yes! We'll need to take some time to mourne the passing of our dear friend VR. Perhaps a moment of silence and some type of cremation/bonfire? Wonder how toxic the chemicals are?

Who is working on the obit? I know he's survived by his parents Mr. Blue Bird and Ms. Serve. He also leaves behind his cousins Moneypac, PayPal and VGC. What else should be included?

At 11:00AM today the register only allowed to me to purchase $2,000.

Bought $10K yesterday at 7PM (wife and I total) and $10K more today at 1PM. Different CVS stores. No Problem

Anyone else planning on showing up at a CVS Monday morning when they unlock the doors, hoping there's a chance the register update won't take place until later in the day?

I gave some input on my thoughts about the whole 'cash only' debacle and ways on how still buy VR's after 3/31

I have never seen so many VRs at my local CVS in San Diego! I was able to purchase with my CC. No problem here and the cashier didn't know anything about any changes...

Zgirl, that is a nice picture of some really ripe, low hanging fruit to pick! Too bad the tree is dying tomorrow. Grab, grab, grab all that fruit while you can and enjoy it. I'm sure everyone here will be looking for the next sort of "tree" to harvest. Tee hee hee :p

Should a cashier demand to see your card, I would imagine you could be SOL as there is no name printed on it. And the small print clearly indicated this is a Prepaid Visa Card. Even the dumbest cashier knows that that means I am afraid.

That said, it is much nicer looking than those with a huge bow or giftwrapped box printed across the card face. lol.

A prepaid card is not necessarily a gift card. I haven't seen any posts about cashiers declining a prepaid card, only gift cards. I suppose somewhere it may have happened, but I think the absence of the word "Gift" will solve the problem at most places, although the no name thing could cause a decline in some places. I don't have any of those problems here in Madison, though, so it's academic for me.

As the local psychologist manufactured spender, I have found this thread quite interesting. I might even do a case study on it.

So far, we have the:

Blamers - Oh, if it weren't for the circles and arrows bloggers and YOU PEOPLE WHO TALK ABOUT THINGS...

Internalizers - Oh, we have no one to blame but ourselves. I hope we enjoyed it.

Deniers - This can't be happening! I don't believe you! This is a conspiracy! Fatwallet is playing a great April Fools Day prank on us!

Normalizers - I enjoyed this while I had it! Let's end with a bang! 5k every day until the sun doesn't shine anymore. Carpe Diem!

Marathon Man - She packed my 5k receipt up tight. Zero hour, 9 am GST. And I'm gonna be hiiiiiiigh as kite by then.. I miss my VR's so much, I miss my MS life...

Did I miss any major subtype?

Where else can you buy VR with a CC? Nowhere? I know Walgreens, Rite Aid, and 711 don't allow it. I doubt WM and local grocery stores allow it either...

On a serious note though, if the cashier demands to see your card after you've swiped it, which sometimes is the case, I wonder what happens if they void out the transaction. Anyone know? I had a problem using an MVD card (not at CVS) in which MVD authorized the transaction, and despite it never being completed wouldn't, make the funds available for a year unless a release letter was sent by the manager! I would not want to go through something like that again.

Those OM $100 and $200 cards all have those big bows and boxes. What I do is to tape a sticky strip on it and write with Sharpie with some codes (need that for my own purpose too, so I could readily tell which are spent which aint yet.)

I had transactions not going thru on some of those cards but the funds if ever taken out, were returned in a matter of hours. As I went to grocery stores to get rid of them in about 3 hours after failure at WM.

Not ever heard anyone had that experience with MVD.

Just bought another 1k in VRs today in NYC (finishing off my 5k for BB for April) and nobody mentioned anything to me about tomorrow (weird thing was even though I put my DL on the counter I am pretty sure she didn't scan it which they always do on 1k+). I didn't bother asking about the memo though, since I was completing my monthly spend and figured I will know soon enough one way or the other.

Reasoners -- We won't really know for sure until it happens.

A manager at Winn Dixie wanted to decline my prepaid card claiming they no longer allowed prepaid card used to buy MO. Luckily her cashier working next to her chimed in, "Not unless the prepaid card has PIN." I was amused and amazed by the smart reply from this cashier who was just cleaning up the counter and shelves at the CS area.

The clearly visible DEBIT is the one that helps to defuse situation in each and every time when there is some doubt at the cashier's part, per my personal experiences here in South Florida where there are all sorts of visitors and transients thanks to our nice year round weather and the myriad of tourist attractions (a curse actually...)

No, he's not. Most of his cousins are getting the knife, as well. We're not dealing with a clean homicide, this is more like a mass murder.

She confirmed that they received an email from headquarters saying that as of tomorrow these will be cash only.

Kind of sad news, but *thank you* to the people on this board who gave us all a heads up about it yesterday and today! At least we had a chance of picking up a few more VR is before the policy goes into effect.

This is the most depressing news I've received in a long time. This literally kills the game for me. :'(.
