Purchased another $5,000 in Atlanta today and every store manager I ask at CVS is telling me there is no threat (yet) of this region going to cash-only for VRs or gift cards. I give it another 30 - 45 days before it rolls out here (warning -- pure speculation on my part).

OBSERVATION
Whether or not true and if it is indeed factual, time must have been of the essence in the mind of the author to set a date of 3/31.
Not only was the memorandum of instruction poorly written but to communicate directly to individual stores without copying his superiors and or the management ie Regional/District etc would is unacceptable by most business-like.

Nevertheless,we who play this game and all the other opportunities ("clocks we have cleaned") realize they are only as good as long as they last.As the saying goes there always is something coming down the pike.
No doubt this was a goodie, There will be more.

Are you guys just buying a ton even though you can only load 5k a month to bb.
I bought my 5k for April but I don't really like leaving balances. Or having 5-10k VRs sitting in my room

Many of us have more than just BB to load VR's too. BB is not the only outlet.

Purchased several thousand in value of VR today. Store I went into, cashier asked if I was paying with a credit card (yes of course). Cashier said (unprompted by me) that today was the last day and people were rushing in to by VRs. So, if you want to doubt my posting history, or the length of time I've been a member here, go ahead. But I know what I heard.

@98Mike, Dollar General is hardcoded.

By the way, no clerk in my neck of the woods (inland S California) knew anything about the proposed credit card ban after 3/31. I visited 2 stores. But these were cashiers and not store managers that I dealt with at checkout.

Wait, where did all these people/posters come from?!:D

@Everyone reading the thread -- update the sticky / wiki post at the top of the thread to enumerate the lists of regions where VRs will be cash only!

Manager told me today he hadn't heard of any such cash-only restriction. *shrug*

If that topic can't be its own thread, then what should be?

Shouldn't this be a "Speculation:..." thread as is often done with other similar discussions?

Oh, so that is what happened I was wondering why this thread blew up so fast! lol

It is April 1 that is coming up soon, after all. It's going to be tricky for the next day or two distinguishing what's real and what's apocryphal.

Unless the programmers run into difficulty hard-coding the credit card prohibition, it's happening tomorrow. MH 370 ain't gonna come back and neither are credit cards for the purchase of prepaid cards at CVS.

I stopped at the CVS at Connecticut Avenue & K Street NW (just 1 of 23 CVS stores within one mile of my home) in Washington, DC, and the clerk gladly took my CC today for $3K in VR cards. She then volunteered without prompting that I would no longer be able to use credit cards as of tomorrow because it would be cash only from then on. And that's a shame, because their racks were full of VR cards today.

Get over it, folks. CVS HQ has informed all stores that the registers would be programmed to stop accepting CCs tomorrow. Nationwide. Period.

I plan to go back to using my ST SkyMiles debit card at Walmart and transfer $5K per month to my BB account (now that SkyPesos are going to be much harder to earn). ST doesn't like anyone who abuses the mileage earning capability of their debit card, so be prudent and use your card judiciously (not to exceed $5K per month on average is my advice) or get shut down. Anyone else have a better idea? And I don't mean gift cards or money orders - they're too much trouble for too little return.

bought 21 VRs at 4 different stores in Maryland today. None of the employees have heard anything about the memo.
