CVS now $5k/day

Right now we are going to CVS and asking them if it's going cash pretty soon, if this is April fools joke some cashiers will believe it and will not allow use of credit cards in the future.

They didn't have anything to add as they were new to the game. Now that it is going away they are sad. IMO, many of them will disappear after this - but the ones who stay will no longer be 'newbies'.

I'm curious how many people will be left holding the bag on Amex GCs or something else that they were rapidly funneling to VRs. If this had happened a month earlier I would have been sitting on $59,000 in Amex Gift Cards. I could still have liquidated them but not nearly as easily as with VRs.

Two data points:

Not a 24 hour rolling period. Bought some at 4pm yesterday and now at 10 this morning.

Assistant manager has not heard of said memo regarding cash only. Doesn't mean it's not true but this store hasn't heard anything yet. Not that it matters but who knows.

No, that would be easy to turnover. Tell/show them corporate policy of the $5k with DL scan. This is where knowing your CVS clerks is important. They trust you to know the knowledge because you deal with VR's more than they do!

You just joined last month and your wondering why there is a bunch of newbies...

7 am in San Diego-- NOT able to buy VR's with a Credit card this morning.

Cashier said 1000 a day limit, cash or debit only. (Did he make up the 1000 limit??)

Datapoint:

In Boston, MA, I purchased VR this morning at a local CVS, and was informed by the Asst Manager that they had just received the memo this morning. According to her, and I have no reason to doubt her given that I have purchased many VRs at this location previously without an issue, she reported that as of tomorrow (March 31), all VR will be hard-coded into the system to reject credit card purchases.

A lot of the stores that I frequent in SD are $1k max. I think one store started it, it spread, and they all did it. At least in North County Coastal.

They still allow CC's, but stringent about the $1k max. Leads to a lot of people stealing the VR's according to the managers I talked to...

Also, my mom was able to purchase $1k from a few stores yesterday night. I will let you know if she is able to do the same this morning.

Marathon Man Mar 30, 2014 8:17 am

ADK inspired this idea...

i think if cvs really goes cash only for vrs, everyone here should go get rolled coins and buy a few vr with them. All on april 1.

Imagine buying 2 or 10 vr with coins? It would send a message and to me, it would be well worth the vr fee to do so lol

I think most people value their time more than that to prove a point that won't do much tbh.

I'm heading out today, will update. And I hope there aren't many doubts about my post count :).

And FlightNurse, I know of what you speak but many areas do not have them (including mine). No PMs please, it isn't that hard to figure out if it is nearby but a large number of us don't have any. To the best of my knowledge, without CVS selling to CC, buying VR with CC is dead in 60-70% of the country.

You've never met Marathon Man then :D.

Doesn't it seem odd that despite now dozens of people claiming to have seen the e-mail posted, or spoken to managers at CVS, only one picture exists? And an incomplete one at that?

Long time reader. First post. Woo! My miles may vary.
